Ridiculousness = McCain

Seriously ridiculous for several reasons:

1) McCain and Obama are not on committees that have any jurisdiction in this matter and the committee that is handling it -- Banking -- is being very competently led by Dodd and Shelby.

2) Presidential campaigns haven't stopped for wars which are on an equivalent level of economic crises and last I checked we were involved in two wars.

3) The negotiations by all reports are going well and most of the points both Obama and McCain want are being incorporated into the final bill.

4) Obama reached out to McCain first on this in private and McCain actually thinks he can show leadership by being the first to declare something in public? Journalists are already picking up on the fact that Obama reached out first and this will just make McCain look unbelievable slimy.

5) Why doesn't McCain just send Palin to negotiate? They're a team, aren't they? Doesn't he have confidence in her abilities to negotiate on his behalf instead of suspending his campaign with 41 days to go to do it himself?

6) You can't just stop politics 41 days from a presidential election. It's impossible; everything will have a veneer of politics at this point.

But, regardless, I'm sure there's a certain segment of the population who will eat this up...

McCain Bet Entirely Too Much

He demanded that Obama do three HUGE things: suspend the campaign, delay the debates, and return to DC to help with negotiations.

There was no way and no how Obama would agree to all three of those things as that would just lose the election for him. Obama called McCain's bluff (wisely).

Now it's McCain's turn: what can he do? He just painted himself into a box. He can double down by not showing up at the Friday debate but that'll just make him look like an idiot and give Obama 2 hours to talk about what he's doing -- in detail -- to help in this crisis.

Original article: Correction on Sarah Palin

Lord...

That video of Palin trying to explain how being by Russia gives her NS experience was like watching a cross between a deer in headlights and a mangled corpse.

Those what?

It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there.

What is she referring to when she says "those"? It's not apparent in the rest of the statement, either...

@ timbuktom

Don't worry, in all likelihood, your and Andrew's money will be buying lunch for some JPMorgan executive soon. That's kind of like doing lunch, isn't it?

Orwell

It's funny... I have definitely seen an uptick in "1984" references in the past few days.

Georgetown Cocktail Parties

The new "liberal establishment"?

Too bad most people associate Georgetown with the Hoyas and not some ritzy neighborhood in DC.

I am convinced..

That someone is going to get hurt at one of these rallies. They are seething beds of anger.

Some people are already verbally abusing the reporters that are covering the events and with McCain's and (especially) Palin's increasingly vile attacks against the "mainstream media," are we going to see one person take his anger out on a reporter?

I'm truly concerned. We are staring at true politically-based violence at these rallies.

I hope McCain will forever be ashamed.

Glenn... too soon...

What we’re seeing in this video is just the start of the angry recriminations in this movement as they seek to blame each other for what has happened. As John Cole puts it: “The coming circular firing squad is going to be fun.” It’s also likely to be protracted, bitter and brutal. Looking around at the utter destruction they’ve sown — to our Constitution, to our economy, to our standing in the world, and to multiple other countries — that is the only just outcome.

This sounds way too much like celebration. I feel that you have been gloating too much lately. The right-wing and the Republicans have not been defeated, yet. It's not over until it's over! I don't care what the statisticians, polls, or "experts" say, as far as I'm concerned, Obama's behind and everybody should be acting that way until the last vote is counted on November 4! The right-wing will try anything -- anything -- to take this election and we got to make sure they don't.

Keep on canvassing, calling, donating, and just talking to your friends, family, and acquaintances. But, please, no celebrating!

Stop Publicizing Malkin

Her vile really doesn't deserve to be linked to, responded to, or ever even mentioned.

#2 was Wright....

I would have never guessed that and I think I'm pretty on top of election news. So, yeah, to most people, McCain's spokesperson would have looked like he was caught in a lie.

Original article: In thanks to Hillary

Please...

Can we start with the congratulations tomorrow night? I know, I know, it'll pretty much take an act of God for Obama to lose at this point but, seriously, can we just hold it in for 36 more hours?

Stevens being allowed to vote as a felon

I believe -- but I can be mistaken -- that Alaska's no voting for felons law has some sort of "moral turpitude" requirement. A judge decided that the seven crimes Stevens was found guilty of did not amount to "moral turpitude." Considering Alaska's current AG's last job was small-town attorney in Wasilla, who here wants to bet the judge here was competent enough to judge this?

Alaska is one effed up place...

I don't really see it as hypocritical

Many of the right-wing attacks against Obama regarding his supposed socialist leanings also at times claimed that there was some sort of Obama campaign/media conspiracy to cover up those leanings and present him as a moderate. Of course, how you get from moderate to "Reagan conservative" is a new one which I can't explain.
