What happens to it at the beach in the sand and salt air and water? If you can't take it there, who needs it?

I wouldn't include the Onion along with the Daily Show and Colbert in terms of being from, or on, the left; its humor and satire seem be genuinely non-partisan and non-political to me.
I don't get it, I think the whole Abba resurgence or reappraisal is based on nothing. They are worse than cheesy, all their songs that I know anyway are bland, sterile, uninteresting, no humor, wit or swing, and don't rock at all! I am no hipster or musical snob by any means, although I try to listen to a lot of fairly eclectic stuff, I love good pop and also have soft-spots for a lot of guilty-pleasure 70's stuff that a lot of people would call cheesy, but I just have never gotten much pleasure, guilty or innocent, from Abba songs, and I don't see what the jubilation is about. They are certainly no Raspberries or Badfinger, that is for absolute sure.

Cultural Gap, not sure what you mean, your comment prompted me out of curiosity to look up Newsday's review, it had a few positive comments but overall was largely in agreement with Salon's and I'd say was negative overall, here is the last paragraph:
"...the old-man jokes, low-rent sex humor and Lee's inability to resist the very easy laugh eventually wear you down. Why do Floyd and Louis have to travel from Los Angeles to the Apollo Theater in a 1971 green Eldorado? Because if they took a plane, the movie would be over in 15 minutes. Not a bad idea."
Not a glowing recommendation!
