This seems pretty simple to me. If you own an establishment that is open to the public, you need to be able to deal with children's presence there. Restaurants self-select whether or not children spend any time there by their choice of location, menu, prices, whether alcohol is served, hours of operation, etc. I've never seen children in high-end evening dining establishements, for example. Children are human beings, and restaurant patrons and owners are as likely to experience poor behavior in adults as they are in children. I've owned and worked in mid-level restaurants where children were commonly present and instances of unacceptable behavior were uncommon. I've also been in places with my daughter when she was young where she was perfectly behaved and nearby adults were kissing, loudly using serious profanity, etc. so why not prohibit those people? Bottom line? Everyone's welcome...deal with it.
Smartfood channeled Reagan era zeitgeist? Popcorn can do such a thing? And here I thought it was just a slightly better version of the margarine-y cheddar popcorn sold by manufacturers who sought only the lowest cost of goods - quality be damned. And somehow, using 11 fewer ingredients and donating some profits to worthy causes makes Anne Withey and team the same as Kraft Foods, who owns cigarette companies. This writer needs to find a bigger problem. I'm sorry she feels betrayed by her own naivety but there's no need to share it with everyone else by getting it published on Salon.com. Annie's is decent food at a decent price sold by people who don't sell cigarettes. Go find a real asshole to write about in the food industry and leave your self righteous bunny droppings elsewhere.
Ok...I've had enough. I'm starting an organization called 'Catholics Against Bill Donohue". We're going to lobby the Vatican to get him excommunicated for routinely committing at least 4 of the 7 deadly sins. He doesn't deserve to get into heaven, even if there isn't one. We'll make him the 'bad PR' nightmare of the Pope. We'll accuse him of sodomizing young boys (not too far a stretch given his apparent hatred of women) and other such mortal sins. This guy is the modern Inquisition....a screaming meemie so non-spiritual it's a shock no one in the clergy stands up and denounces this guy, God save us from Bill Donohue.
