Guys just think back to when YOU were a kid. Think back carefully.
If you weren't the one bullied or harassed, you have no idea what it felt like as a kid on the recieving end. The teachers were useless. They would just say things like "just ignore them" or other worthless advice which did nothing to SOLVE the situation.
And guess what? The bullies knew you were helpless, and they would attack you mercilessly. They knew you had nothing. They had strength in numbers, so seriously what are you gonna do huh? What are you gonna do?
These "anti-bully" campaigns fail to teach the ONE thing that stops bullies in their tracks. We all know what that is, but we don't teach that to our kids. And that is...
FIGHT BACK. Expect injury, and don't be afraid of it. Everyone takes a beating sometime in their life. These kids are simply not equipped with the knowledge on HOW TO fight back. What are you carrying in your arms? Heavy books. What's that in your pencil case? Pens and pencils. In order words - weapons to fight back with.
Once the bullies see that you're not an easy target, I guarantee you that they will move on to easier prey.
lots of foodie snobs right here in this column. sigh seriously eat whatever you can afford, there are people in this world who can't do even that.
no need to be all self righteous just because you shop at whole foods or choices or wherever the hell the most chic organic place to shop at is.
my dad fed his family from food grown from his backyard. it was great, it was healthy, but are we suddenly awesome and elitist just because of it? nope.
OK you can't have it both ways. You can't make 6 figures and yet work just a 40 hour work week. Whether male or female.
I don't sub to Salon either - this article is a key reason, along with the atrocity that is broadsheet. I just run NoScript from firefox and I just click past the blanked-out ad pages.
Obama's done a good job so far. Better by far than Bush. And you're demonizing him? Just because he hasn't fixed all your personal issues?
So on YOUR upcoming deathbed, is it our place to criticize how YOUR daughter grieves for you? Crossed a line there, MJ or no MJ.
Maybe this was just stunt to generate Salon traffic, sigh.
Anymore pics? Much ado about nothing. These, like everything else is fodder to gawk at, and then forgotten. Sigh think - it's Vanity Fair/Elle/Cosmo! It's what they do. Moving on to the next thing.
We don't need the useless flash and glitz. Just give us something that works, no frills, no gimmicks. No need for the window dressing. And that's VLC.
Everyone needs to remember the following things about Mr. Welch:
- He's not an individual who you'd want to emulate in all ways. He treated his family life as "man goes to work, and the woman stays home and takes care of the family". This is coming from a guy who routinely puts in 12 hour workdays. By the time he comes home - what time has he spent with his kids? He simply expects his wife to handle everything at home. His ex-wife made millions off of the divorce.
- His current wife Suzy Welch. She was forced to resign when word leaked out that she slept with Jack - an enormous conflict of interest.
- His health. He's been through some major surgeries. Have to wonder how many of these health issues were a direct result of work-related stress. I'm betting that they were(and are).
So he's says that you have to either choose your family, or choose your career. That's true only to a degree. If you're aiming to be the next CEO of a Fortune 500 company, then yes your entire life becomes all about work. There truly is no work-life balance. You have to attend every golf game, every management meeting(eg. dinner with the boss's family), every little vendor gathering where the big shots are.
The higher up you wish to go, the less and less optional all these little events are. Especially if you're in middle management. Mr. Welch expects you to put in your "face time". That all seriously adds up.
The guy is misogynist(sp) - of course he is. He's a perfect example of an insider within the "old boys club". It's an exclusive club that's invite-only. In order to make it in...you have to be just like them. It is as old-school male as it gets.
There can only be so many people at the top. We can't all be CEO's. And those at the top pay a heavy price, and it's one that they never talk about, because things like family life take an enormous backseat to "winning". And that's how they keep score. Fathering children with as many different women as possible serves the only purpose of furthering their gene line, and that's about it. Jack and his peers just don't care.
Oh sure, they'll be there for your wedding(their invitation was not a matter of choice). Sure, they'll be there for your son's 1st birthday. But they'll also have you escorted out the company doors as soon as your numbers don't make the month.
