This article is a -little- less biased but just stops short of applauding more girls over boys. But it came really close.
What happens when, even when according to all tests, measurements and assurances, that you've ended up with a boy? There's bound to be a time where, even with the best of medical science, something doesn't go quite right? Eject the boy then, and try again for a girl? That's where the article didn't touch, and could have.
But this is broadsheet, and we all know how broadsheet is when it comes to men vs. women.
On one hand it's good to start having more girls to equalize the glut of boys in China, India, and other places where the gender disparity is appalling. Maybe when the boys grow up, it won't be 20 boys for every girl, maybe not - all depends if the women find China or India an attractive place to move to. Or if the boys save up their farm wages, and hop a plane over(thus leaving their families who depend on them to survive). Time will tell.
This is just yet another one of those things. Damned if you do.
- If you buy it from a breeder then you'll get your throat slit.
- If you buy it from a pet store you're just as guilty.
- If you buy it from anywhere, how dare you treat a defenseless animal as a piece of property to be bought and sold.
- If you find a stray and take in it, how dare you take away someone else's faithful pet.
Can't win, someone will hate you no matter what you do when it comes to cats and dogs. You can't feed it pet food bought from the store because all that stuff is processed food made by animal byproducts. You can't feed it raw meat because how dare you endanger everyone else who steps into your home due to the dangers of handling raw meat.
Better not to have a pet at all. But then someone will come out and say, how dare you not provide a home for an animal in need.
Leave it to broadsheet to be all smug about this TV stuff.
OK that's TV - how about reality? It takes more than just "female empowerment" shows that sell, to make real strides in where it *really* matters.
It shouldn't be solely about shows with women in power. It should shows that feature PEOPLE in power, bringing both sides to the table, not just focusing on one thing.
What about the minorities? What about seeing more Blacks, more Hispanics, more under-represented groups into positions of power? Shouldn't be just about women.
Before any of you gents think it'd be cool to be the "last male around for repopulation"...
...I'm guessing that you're probably accustomed to women from Europe, Asia, America, and so on. So with that picture firmly in mind...
now take a gander at a typical Inuit woman. I'm not gonna say anymore...
At the poster who said "blah blah no one in their right abandons a lost and crying child".
You're probably not a man.
Because in any man knows, you have tread this very carefully. It's always going to be alright if a woman approaches a crying kid, but a man? Anyone walking by is going to raise their eyebrows. "That man might not be a bad man, but why chance it?"
If you're a man and you *really* want to help the kid, the rules of conduct are:
- Speak to the child, but speak in a volume loud enough so others around can hear you.
- Stay a healthy distance away from the child, so that physical contact of any kind is impossible.
- Do not hand anything to the child. Do not accept anything from the child.
- If you give the child any instructions, make sure the child understand exactly what you are instruction him/her to do. Otherwise, do not have the child follow through.
As a man, if you conduct things in this manner, you'll be fine.
My advice:
Play World of Warcraft.
If I had a daughter, better the chemical than the razor and bandaids.
I don't want her cutting herself! Just my opinion.
That's right, no football.
Doesn't take very much brains to look up the multitude of football-induced injuries. Many of them are no joke, and impact you for the rest of your life. Go on, google it.
Let me know how you make out.
...just to quote Michael Jackson :)
You need only look at your local magazine rack. Of the many women depicted on the front covers, how many magazines show white women?
Now that you're finished counting, how many show black women?
Probably none. If there were any, it'd be maybe Oprah or Tyra Banks.
There is definitely something to be said here. But if this industry is all about looks, it's hard to say. I mean look at your typical muscle mag. How many of those front covers showed an Asian? Hardly, if ever. But is that pointing to racism? I don't think so.
Sigh, for the past few times that I've seen moms breastfeed in public, you know how they do it?
They drape a blanket or coat over their shoulder which also covers the kid and breast area. If you happened to look their way, you might wonder for a second what she's doing, realize it, think nothing of it, and carry on.
Nothing objectionable there, the mom looks fine.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.
It's up to both sides on the subject of birth control. Not just one or the other.
Common sense.
