  • You people aren't seeing this as you could be

[Read the article: Welcome to Woman Town]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Hmm let's see.

A area dominated by women who call the shots and carry the purse-strings.

Sounds like an incredible business opportunity for all sorts of things. I can already see huge advertising signs everywhere where any of these women could possibly go.

Seriously if you were a business person in China, it would be insane of you to pass up this opportunity. An area where it is a given that you *will* profit? It sounds incredible.

Think from that perspective and no matter how chauvinistic or sexist you men might be, deep down - You will just as quickly put these feelings aside, cater to the captive customers, and start making some $$$.

To echo an earlier poster? I'm so there.

  • dear wonder woman

[Read the article: My boyfriend's climbing partner let him fall]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

No need for so many words - her BF was nearly killed - in an accident where partner was involved, and then partner decided to immediately cover his own behind - even sent them the bill to cover his expenses incurred from the incident.

Many of us expect others to be helpful and not be selfish in the face of possible tragedy. Not so much from a stranger but certainly from friends and family.

wonder woman I wonder if you will be this philosophical when your turn comes for this type of situation. Will you be emotionless despite all circumstances?

When your turn comes you will know.

  • Nope. Doesn't tell the whole picture.

[Read the article: Women earn less than men a year out of college]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The dangerous thing about these stats is that they can be used to "prove" just about anything. We're still not comparing apples to apples.

I can say Waitresses "in general" take home more than Waiters, because pretty waitresses can use their charms to coax more tip outta their male customers. But is that fact? Maybe, maybe not.

What about the companies who look to recruit more female employees, because HR has a policy which stipulates X number of women MUST be hired for how many X number of men? Who's to say these hired women are making any less than their male counterparts?

What about the professions such as plumbing, sewage people, carpenters, miners, mechanics...are the stats being collected here as well? If not, how can we claim that women's wages are being reduced, especially when these traditionally male-dominated professions are doing their part to recruit more women? I'll take a wild guess and bet that women miners aren't making any less than their male coworkers.

You can't simply take Donald Trump's take home, compare it to Melania's, and suddenly come out and say there's a yawning chasm in wage disparity.

  • Outsourcing more...

[Read the article: Modern-day wet nursing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well the whole idea of giving your own "mother's milk" might go against the grain deep down biologically...although we do see a similar type of thing in the wild...momma birds feeding other bird species. You can look that up if you need more info but you'll see the absolute giant bird feeding much much tinier chicks..

Not really sure what to think of this but we're already outsourcing so many different things now, all kinds of labor and services.

  • There is a difference

[Read the article: Women to blame for global warming?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is a difference between old-school bulbs and these new-fangled ones.

It's just whether or not your eyes can see it. If you can't, just get whatever makes most economic sense. If paying X amount will save you X number of dollars over a year, then go for it.

But if it takes 5-10 years to realize any savings, then that's another judgement call.

  • Remember Bridget Jones' diary? The ending?

[Read the article: My husband read my journal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Remember when her boyfriend read her entire diary? Then stormed out the front door?

...and came back with a fresh one for her?

Naw. Nothing to worry about. Just give tons of you know, the stuff that we guys are really into.

  • What about *your* kid - Down's vs not?

[Read the article: Parents speak to the upside of Down syndrome]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If you had a choice between a healthy kid or a kid with Down's...everyone here raise your hand if you opt for the Down's.

I'll take a wild guess and say that I'm not seeing any hands. So easy for you to say others should or should not do this or that, but when you're confront with the question - you're faced with a test result that says your kid on that picture there - has a high chance of Down's Syndrome. I wonder how many of you truly realize the enormous amount of care and effort which goes into caring for one with the defect. This means lifelong care, with a slim chance of you being able to kiss the kid goodbye when he/she is in his/her twenties, ready to tackle the world on his or her own.

Seriously consider the huge differences between caring for a normal, healthy kid versus one with Down's. It is not the same. You will not be seeing the Down's kid hitting the same mental milestones as the healthy one. You will not be hearing the same teenage daughter angst over picking these shoes or those heels, and agonizing over her safety on her first date.

Instead with the Down's kid you'll be doing the same sort of lifelong care that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Will be wishing that kid was normal? Maybe, Maybe not. Will that Down's kid have the same career opportunities? The same choices? The same kind of future available to him/her?

These are the things you really gotta consider when you stare at that photo and figure what your next course of action, or inaction.
