@SandraM II

"Women are never going to be treated as 'equal' until we can stop correcting one another for the choices we make."

I don't think anyone cares if the bride or any woman wants to get Botox, liposuction, breast enhancement, tooth implants in preparation for her own wedding or for any reason.

What commenters are noting is the silliness of these women insisting that their mother or bridesmaids submit to these invasive procedures.

I don't think this is any big trend, just a couple of Bridezilla control freaks who are turning their weddings into the 70th Annual Academy Awards ceremony.

The joke is - these are the same women who'll be divorced 3 years from now, probably still paying for the wedding!

Better solution than Botox

I have a safe and more cost-effective solution than coercing Mom and reluctant friends into Botox or boob jobs so they'll look fabulous in your wedding. Hire models instead!

I'm sure there are lots of gorgeous people who could be hired to stand in instead of your wrinkled mother or flat-chested girlfriends at your wedding production extravaganza.

And this frees up friends and family from having to purchase the ugly gowns (that they will NEVER wear again) Bridezilla is surely to have selected - they can come to the wedding as guests and have a good time!

Public face of abortion?

Do we know if Sherri Stupid is pro-choice or anti-choice? From the quotes I can't tell - so is she the face of the anti-choice crowd?

Sherri is as stupid as a box of hair. I can't even imagine how ignorant she was back when "she was young". Hate to sound callous, but isn't it preferrable that she chose to have the abortions, rather than bringing additional waifs into the world?

Time for new friends!

"China. Iraq. Saudi Arabia. Zimbabwe. Israel. Russia."

I'm with Pinky - let's throw in some more fun playmates like Yemen, Sudan, Libya, any of the 'Stans and create our own Coalition of the Torturing.

Enough of this pandering!

I'm with Jeannette on this one. So, their first joint appearance is in front of a religious audience - I'm not interested in where, when, or what church anyone goes to - I want to know what are you going to do about America? And don't tell me you're praying about it!

everyone else is bi/multilingual

I had a fun experience as an American in Paris a few years ago. Two young Japanese women approached me, asking in pretty decent French for directions to a store. I gave them the directions in my "tourist" French. It wasn't until we almost finished our conversation that they noticed the UK newspaper I was reading. We ended up chatting for 20 minutes - in English.

@lurker2209

Listen to your mother! I worked in the swimwear/lingerie department of a very high-end retailer several years ago. You'd be amazed at the number of women who try on bathing suits and undergarments without underwear. A word to the wise - always wash a new swimsuit with detergent before you wear it.

"Isn't it far more likely that these old guys just want to HAVE SEX with their hot young wives/girlfriends, and the babies are more a product of the woman wanting a baby with said rich guy?"

I think you're correct here. I know several older gentlemen (50+) who absolutely have NO interest in having children at this age. Some already been there, done that; others aren't interested in running after toddlers when they could be making money, playing golf, traveling, etc.

The tabloid media hypes celebrities (male and female) having kids at 50+ - they're rich, can hire nannies, trainers to get back in shape. The average middle-class person can't afford to have babies that will be entering college when you're in your 70s.

Do you think any of the xenophobes were going to vote for Barack Obama anyway?

No relation to what a company will pay

"There are definitely ways in this day and age to get a handle on what the low, mid, and high points are for various jobs in the for-profit and non-profit worlds."

Sorry folks. You can do all the online searching you want, read all the industry reports about salaries for positions. Those are just industry averages or medians.

The salary range for a position within an individual company is entirely different. And you will have NO idea if the salary being offered is the same as another person at that company. And that is what counts - how your pay compares to others with the same job/skills within your organization.

No real penalty for pay discrimination

"I find it hard to believe that the vast majority of people running businesses PURPOSELY pay women less, just because they think they can get away with it."

Have you been paying attention? They can get away with it. Most people are completely unaware of what the salary range is for a position until they have already joined the company. Companies are not required to publish salaries or ranges for a position. And many companies prohibit employees from discussing salaries with co-workers.

So a woman (or anyone) may not know they are being paid less that someone else with the same qualifications for months or years. And according to SCOTUS, you must file your discrimination lawsuit within a narrow (I think 90 days) window of receiving the first paycheck.

If a company figures they won't get caught - pretty good bet - and they want to keep employee costs as low as possible, so they shave $1000 here and there, over time it adds up to alot of money.
