Recession means less economic stability

Elron says: we can argue that the higher socio-economic level as we get older affords the child of older parents more opportunities

This might have been true in the past, but given how many of today's 25-35 year olds have poorer job prospects, lower retirement investments, no home equity, sketchy healthcare - we can't make any assumption that these folks will be more financially stable in 15 years and able to take time off to raise children or fund daycare/college.

Original article: The great puberty panic!

Tempest in a teapot

"four and a half months earlier than those with no copies"

So the difference is 4 1/2 months? Not really a big deal to get so worked up about. It's not like they're talking about going from 13 years old to 8 years old!

@Laurel962

Because most people, pro or con, believe THEY INDIVIDUALLY always have the right to know and do what is right FOR THEMSELVES. They trust THEMSELVES to know the difference between what right and wrong, moral and immoral, "good enough reasons" and poor excuses. The only people who DO NOT have this right are "other people".

Well said. I know of several "pro-life" women who chose abortions when they found out their "baby" had some abnormalities. They felt that was the correct decision for them, but others can't make that same decision?

And the nonsense about providing programs designed to deal with those who choose to abort because of economic issues. Nurses visits, well-baby care just cover a fraction of the cost of raising a child for 18+ years. Women are not choosing to abort just because they don't have the money for the birth or infant care - they don't have enough money to support an additional child to adulthood.

Battle ready

If I was a terrist, I'd be scared of those boxers! And doesn't everyone where flipflops just about everywhere today?

This is a bunch of crap

It's easy to "downshift" your career when you've already reached a significant level of success and you have a high-earning husband to fall back on.

@ Mike Zimbouski

Now he'll go on to face current Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat, in the general election, which will be held later this year.

New Jersey governor, Lt Gov, State Assembly and a bunch of County offices will be decided in November.

Incorrect

And laws against committing suicide.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not illegal to commit suicide.

Original article: How to talk about abortion

Wrong again

What's illegal is being unsuccessful.

Suicide, whether successful or unsuccessful is not a criminal act in the US.

Working on 20%

but at the same time they want to show activists, donors and voters on the right that they did something to oppose her.

Have fun alienating Latinos, any other "minorities", women, rational thinking men, etc. while locking up the racist, sexist idiot demographic.

Yup! This is just a ploy to boost ratings

TV ratings for the Oscars have been swirling down the toilet, especially when many of the films/performances nominated only played in NYC or LA.

Think of all of the fans who will tune in when "Transformers 8:Revenge of the Roombas" faces off against "EuroAsianArtfilm" for the big one!

NJ don't like no wingnuts

While incumbent Gov Jon Corzine is hurting, NJ voters are just now finding out that GOP candidate Christie is anti-choice, would have turned down economic stimulus - moves that aren't too popular with NJ's generally moderate-left voting public.

Bringing a certified wingnut like Palin in to stump for the GOP will probably backfire.

America's new Top Chef?

Maybe Justice Sotomayor and Justice Ginsberg can trade recipes? I'm looking forward to the gals new cookbook. I prefer to eat them with fava beans and a nice chianti.

If we had a time machine

could we go back in time and pay Rep Tiahrt's mother to abort him? Or could we just collect money via the Intertubes and pay some thugs to take him out?

Oh, hell no!

micros ms. says: Hell, and after all of that we are rewarded with a kiss... a kiss! No skin?

They've got to be kidding! An R rating and no hot sexy? The only possible reason I would have gone to this dreckfest was to see Butler's hot bod. No thanks!

Give the Vendor a second chance

It might be malware, it might be someone else accessing his/her computer.

My suggestion - send a reply (without the image attached) indicating that you must have received this by mistake and that they need to check the content before emailing you in the future as your company has a policy against employees having this kind of content on their computers.

I never give friends/relatives my work email for this very reason - I don't want to receive anything that might be questionable or NSFW.

Not buying it

Does anyone believe that Palin is actually writing these (moderately) coherent posts? I don't think so - probably Willow or Piper or Truck or Twig got ahold of her Blackberry.

Original article: Jenny Sanford strikes back

It's not our business

The inner workings on the Sanfords' or anyone else's marriage is our business. Neither serves as a role model for anyone and despite this "exclusive" interview, only the parties directly involved know what is going on.

The people of South Carolina should be paying attention to Sanford's misuse of taxpayer funds and dereliction of duty as governor, not worrying about whether Mrs. Sanford is the new role model for wronged spouses.

Almost true

Actually, the new government sponsored healthcare plan will consist of two plans, based on voter ID:

Democrat - free preventative medicine, free prescriptions, no out-of-pocket for surgeries, no lifetime limits, free cosmetic dentistry, Lasik, hair transplants, weekly mani-pedi, annual spa treatments

GOP - Prayer.

Keep up with the story

The young secretaries don't see Peggy as a professional or romantic rival in the office. Rather, they're more concerned that she doesn't have enough "juice" and working for her won't advance either their secretarial careers or get them a husband.

Original article: In defense of ACORN

Do as I say, not as I do

This situation is just the 21st century version of Reagan's Cadillac-driving welfare queen. God forbid an organization helping regular people (including some poor, brown folks) access their government's services screws up - meanwhile HalliburtonBlackwaterKBR continue to get $billions in federal contracts despite massive incompetence and illegal behavior (ya know, like raping/killing people).
