@KristinB

Your comment is succinct and brilliant and bears repeating:

bizarro world feminism

yes, yes, and yes. i feel like i'm living in bizarro world, but this horrible kind of bizzaro world because it's real, and suddenly, fox news pundits and republicans care about feminism because they realize that they can twist it and redefine it. mccain is running around the country with two former beauty queens that are each twenty to thirty years his junior one of whom he recently invited to disrobe so that she could participate in the miss buffalo crap contest. he does not support equal work for equal pay, his running mate saved $15,000 for her tiny town by charging rape victims for rape kits, he opposed the violence against women act, he's anti-choice even in cases of rape or incest, his running mate compares women to dogs, he once quipped that chelsea was ugly because her father was janet reno--and he has the balls to lecture ME and the rest of america about sexism?

some advice

Don't stop and think about my advice, just do it.

1. Buy and read the humor book, "It's called a break up because it's broken."

2. Take that history you wrote and burn it ceremoniously. Feel whatever feelings you feel as you burn it. Delete any duplicate copies in your hard drive before the

3. Stop calling her, writing her, being her friend and eliminate her from your facebook/myspace/linked in/ etc. networks.

4. Learn to live with yourself for awhile and stop "dating" the dramatic ghosts of your past to fill up the empty spaces.

5. Next time you meet a nice, attractive, intelligent lady willing to give you her time and affection, don't cheat on her. Avoid all compromising situations that might lead to cheating. When life with her feels humdrum and not dramatic enough, then it is time to spend some time volunteering at a hospital burn unit or give some blood. OR breakup if need be. Just don't cheat.

6. Don't get involved in another long distance relationship EVER. If someone wants to move after you get involved, then either follow or break up. Long distance relationships lead to compromising situations that lead to cheating.

Really, you don't have to spend anymore time in the past. Just move forward, but use my advice.

I read the headline wrong

I saw the headline next to a picture of Osama Bin Laden and my mind registered "Why this lifelong Republican may vote for Osama."

Was that intentional?

correction

All years subsequent to Gore v. Bush. Not prior.

I understand

Rebecca-- I feel the same as you, honestly. We are about the same age and came of age politically in the Clinton years only to have our sense of faith and hope in politics smashed by Gore v Bush, 9/11 and all years prior.

The small sense of hope that we might in 2008 be back on the path of enlightened leadership is now being crushed by this junior high popularity/insult contest.

I believe it was disconcerting that Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell rose so high in GOP ranks when it seemed that the GOP was ultimately counter to the interest of African American men and women.

It is disconcerting that the GOP has handpicked this handmaiden-type and robbed feminists of their moment in the sun.

The GOP however, doesn't really discriminate against people who buy their party line. It appears. I am not sure if this is evidence of tokenism or if the GOP grants a very real access to power for people of any gender or race who kowtow to Born Againism and Big Oil.

All that being said-- we don't talk much about Phyllis Schafley. She was the conservative woman who fought the ERA and was one of the first-wave anti-choice ladies. Maybe we should start comparing Palin to Phyllis Schafley.

Stooping so low...

Cintra-- you are stooping as low as Gary Kamiya.

Why not just cut through the colorful anologies-- domintrax, centerfold...

WHY? Why not just embrace your inner 13 year old and stick to the message and just call her a "slut." Real mature, truly enlightened discourse here.

I am a pro-choice democrat, a woman, someone who voted for Hillary in the primary and will vote for Obama in the general election.

I think that Palin's conservative platform is horrifying.

Cintra-- your op/ed would have been enough without all of the sexist analogies. SO uncalled for, so catty and unneccessary.

I am voting for Obama, and this article was nauseatingly sexist

Five minutes of my life I will never get back.

set your clocks twenty minutes early

Set your clocks twenty minutes early.

Stop drinking caffeinated drinks after four pm.

Limit yourself to no more than one alcoholic drink at dinner on nights before work.

Don't smoke pot at all the nights before work.

Don't use any drugs harder than pot and alcohol, period.

ahhh

I think by "wrapping it up"-- she meant he should have worn a condom.

But whatever. It took me awhile to figure that one out.

This reminds me of Juno-- the quirky little sarcastic/ironic statements from a person with virtually nil life experience. She probably doesn't have any idea how offensive her statements about the child come off to parents.

I think that is why the LW is pushing the buttons of so many parents on the board.

Anyone remember the scene in Juno when Juno is meeting with the adoptive parents for the first time and makes infertile Vanessa cringe by saying "at least you don't have to carry it...."
