From those who want less government...MORE GOVERNMENT!
[Read the article: Is Briana Waters a terrorist?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I first became aware that I was participating in a terrorist activity, aka demonstrating against Ringling Bros. Circus in my town, by one of the participants. She said that the the Animal Enterprise Act essentially would allow my arrest if someone testifies that they saw a person that was about to go into the facility and buy tickets for the circus, change his/her mind and leave. This would essentially mean that I was obstructing the purveyors' ability to gain income. By holding an accurate picture of an elephant chained and being beaten with a bullhook by an employee of the circus, I could be arrested as a terrorist.
It horrifies me that freedom of speech has been kirigamied to this extent. I am sickened by a bunch of corporate backed prosecutors going after people that have a passion for the dependent beings of this world. The mere thought of this mother being put in jail based on a bunch of shady underhanded dealings makes me feel that we are surrounded by an iron curtain. One of our own making. We allowed this to happen. The tiny minority that screamed and rattled the cages and desperately tried to get everyone, anyone to pay attention to what was happened, everyone that was too wrapped up in day to day life to notice that our neocon government had over-stepped to the point of weighing heavily with their steel toed boot on our necks. There are ALF people...or rather visitors to the website that are currently incarcerated for being associated with that organization.
There has never been a more crucial time in our national history. Regardless of the outcome in the democratic primaries, we have to band together and vote in change. Big fat sweeping change. And never, ever again fall for the soothing, consoling whispers of our leaders telling us that they will take care of everything, don't you worry, they've got it covered. Go back to your life. Hopefully, at some point, Briana will be able to do just that.

[Read the article: Is Briana Waters a terrorist?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You're right! I "misspoke". There is a monetary figure of $10,000 being lost on the part of the purveyor for an action to be taken against me. Thanks for the correction.

American TV is insulting to our intelligence
[Read the article: In memory of Gordon Ramsay]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I, too, have watched the English version of Gordon. The man who goes into failing British restaurants and not only fixes their ills but also goes out into the town to market to the masses. As tough as he is, he is ht every time I see him. The owner in the kitchen IS ruining everything while his staff desperately tries to dress up the messes he makes. If the owners actually listen and abide what he says, they succeed. But then we have the abomination that is the American version. Here "contestants" are humiliated, screamed and sworn upon, all the while groveling around saying "yes chef" this and "yes chef" that. It' horrid. The first few times I saw the American version, I was shocked by how brutal and cruel he was. And fake. He has grown into into his character, it appears, seemingly more understanding of the expectation.
I agree with Alex. It's sad. It's sad that we are continuously exposed to shows - dramatic and comic - that are mind numbingly dull and cater to the lowest common denominator. I think the best thing that ever happened to American tv is TIVO, since I can now fast forward past all the commercials that lower my IQ. Watch British and European commercials and you will feel so discriminated against - not only are they (and I am speaking generally here) smart but they are funny.
There are few shows on tv that I bother to watch anymore. The majority cater to the stereotypes and over-explain every nuance.
GR is an asshole, however, in England there was a purpose to it and it wasn't the main course...more like garnish. Here it is the full seven course meal.
