Here we go again
[Read the article: Eight Belles' last run]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The obligatory "anti-PETA" rant.
Sorry, milk IS bad for you. It is meant for calves, not people. Watch the process. Watch as that cow desperately tries to protect her calf from the man taking it away...off to some veal crate. Watch how many of these dairy cows have horribly infected udders that end up putting pus into the milk. Yummy.
As far as pets being enslavement, categorically untrue. The organization allows employees to bring their "pets" to work with them, so that they are not left home alone. Yeah. Extreme!
PETA is a well establish organization focused on ending animal abuse. If they do crazy antics to get media attention, if some of their surrogates get carried away, then oh well. That unfortunately is going to come with the territory.
Minimizing and marginalizing PETA's work on behalf of animals is the same as saying that America's current behavior globally is a direct reflection of the character of each individual citizen in the country.
We don't want that, now, do we?

Wires
[Read the article: Eight Belles' last run]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think that many people object to animals being used in events - circuses, races, fights - etc, where they are merely pawns, having their physical or psychological makeup and attributes used against them. Pits make great fight dogs because they are fiercely loyal, for instance, and terribly tenacious. I don't think NASCAR is an event that qualifies as it involves humans that have chosen to pursue that particular avenue for a career. I wonder how many steers and stallions would be interested in an event that requires a leather strap being pulled so tight that it pinches a very delicate nerve, causing the bucking and jumping. I don't think there would be many volunteers.
I think perhaps you are splitting hairs when you paraphrase the poster's statement "athletes repeatedly dying". I do believe that the writer was talking about each individual athlete dying...not the same one dying over and over again.
It seems to me that when someone does not have a very good argument, they begin to dissect the structure of sentences and word choices.
Essentially, I believe most of the posters here would like to see animals being treated humanely, being trained at an appropriate age by qualified individuals, and bred responsibly.
I believe it is the least we can do.

Wires Part II
[Read the article: Eight Belles' last run]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Aww. Humor. I see. Perhaps I missed your little dingy of mirth in the sea of sarcasm and condescending verbiage.
I guess we all have an opinion. I, personally, don't believe mine is any more or less noteworthy than any other poster on this site. Obviously, I am in direct opposition to your point of view.
You don't have to be an expert or trained or "in the field" to know that abuse is wrong. Whether someone thinks it "emotional drivel" really has no relevance whatsoever. People are entitled to their feelings and for many, the abuse of animals hits a nerve.

In Response: Lynx
[Read the article: Eight Belles' last run]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you are going to place my words in quotes, I would respectfully request that you take the whole passage and not just portions in order to fit your argument.
Case in point - As far as grass for goats and cows' milk for calves...huh. Considering your affinity for pointing out what you consider to be erroneous comparisons, that's a bit of a stretch, don't you think? Milk from a cow you equate to grass? And you cherry picked. I guess you don't feel the whole pus issue is worth noting in your response?
Obviously you have strong feelings about PETA. Fair enough. I'm not real sure why you felt the need to attack, but that's your choice. I happen to agree with a lot of their policies, perhaps not some of their choices but they get attention for the plight of animals and for that, I am happy.
I put "pets" in quotation marks because I was quoting the previous poster. Sorry for the confusion. PETA does have an issue with animals as "pets" because many people mistreat them - beating, neglecting, collecting, etc. - and again, the PETA point of view is a complete end to "animal ownership". I happen to disagree with this particular point of view.
I always find it amusing how people take something that someone writes and says something like "The latter statement doesn't follow even as a comparison" with no backup or supporting documentation.
I have no affiliation to PETA, but I admire anyone that commits his or her life to those without a voice.
I also believe that many of the posts, especially webcat's, are insightful and comprehensive, establishing that the industry needs regulation.
What exactly would be the point of your post with my name as the title? Except to go completely off subject and attack someone offering an opinion. Besides that, I mean.

Pity

[Read more letters about this article: Here]You are a cherry picker, Lynx, condescending and incapable of a comprehensive argument, you are a formidable sniper.
Good luck to you, darling.
