@Deeper Truth Always on that other train, going in the other direction
[Read the article: Moving beyond Obama and race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let's try a post ala Hutman:
Most of you always miss my points
I would readily concede that is likely to be true. How about fewer points with more detail? It's the implied assumptions, the a priori facts that are most interesting to dicuss. If we don't start at the same place, how can we end up at the same destination?
You are so stuck on your narrow agendas that you can't even see, hear, or understand what I am saying.
See above. That statement is a little too sweeping for my taste. Are we really that dumb, or is the delivery really that bad?
I am talking about the issues involving other people's opinions most of the time. Many of you seem so unhealthily biased - and almost - yes - brainwashed towards Obama and against the Clintons.
I would suggest taking extra pains to differentiate between the truth, your opinion of the truth, and how you think others perceive the truth. A bit tedious, but I've noticed there is quite enough unhealthy bias to go around. There are many posters who state they are just painting a picture of other people's views, some are just attempting to put their views in another persons mouth, most just do a mediocre job of it. It's not like we are the A-team of writers and philosopher Kings and Queens. Gotta know your audience.
Much of your thinking is full of so much misinformation, inaccuracy, and vitriol. How do you expect humans to ever live in peace and understanding if you can't?
I seek much more modest goals than a transformation of the human condition. Like I said earlier. Maybe we should narrow our focus and take more baby steps.
There are many, many, many, many people in American who think very differently than you. They are the people who decide who wins in general elections.
We are well aware of that, just like we are aware that anybody who posts on Salon probably thinks differently than the majority. Even the majority doesn't think like the majority, because that's just a phantom aggregation of all people. Most people will more or less agree with that mythical creature on many different points. And I am leery of those who claim to speak for the Majority. They usually don't.
But I do enjoy reading your posts

@dawg time to retool
[Read the article: Moving beyond Obama and race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]odog, you need to retool. You're starting to come across as one of those fluffy, yappy terrier dogs, the ones with the napoleon complexes.
Obama often mentions in speeches the fact that her mom was a single-parent, that his father took off. I don't see how that puts his dad in a good light. The media echo chamber hasn't focused on that point, but I fail to see how that is Obamas fault.

@Lupiani Face saving solution
[Read the article: Politico: "Clinton has virtually no chance of winning"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]According to the New York Times* in New Mexico Hillary got 68,654 votes to Obama's 67,531 (a difference of 1,123) - or 48.8% to 48.0%. She earned 14 delegates to his 12. So it's not like Richardson's endorsement goes against the vast majority of New Mexico's voters. *http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/states/NM.html
Richardson should cut off his pinkie finger like a good Yakuza and send it in a box to the Hillary campaign. That will make up for the 0.8% difference.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]He [Jesus] would pray for Rev. Wright, Mr. Obama, and Louis Farrakhan, but I do not think that he would condone their behavior, lack of behavior, and wrong words with a "vote" of approval...
Well, my Jesus phone is temporarily disconnected, so I can't claim to speak on his behalf. But in my opinion, it's a bit of a stretch to think that any of the current batch of candidates is without flaw and would automatically merit his approval. We'll just have to make our own best judgements out of our shared humanity.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Do you think the military can go on fighting the war if they cannot (even if it's in their own minds) depend on the White House for cover, and to implement their own, and the White House's worst instincts? Won't it fuck them all up? Would you waterboard for Obama
Doesn't this presuppose that the Military has been totally behind the war and the methods by which it has been persecuted? From my prespective as a (GD) civilian, it appears there has been a lot of protest from a group that's supposed to keep quiet and take orders from civilians. I thought waterboarding is forbidden in the unified code of military justice. And a lot of these "questionable activities" have been done by contractors and/or the CIA. I don't deny that I've gotten the impression that some think they are doing god's work, but I question if they are the majority.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I certainly don't blame the black people for feeling like we owe them something. -- michmog
I see. What exactly does 21st Century black America think they are due? Let me put it a different way. What exactly would it take for black America to no longer feel unfullfilled/unequal/unwhatever?
This attitue reminds me of our foreign policy. All we have to do is show up, drop off a TV and a Frig, franchise a few MacD's and Taco Bells and democracy will flourish.
What we really need to do is help rebuild the cultural and social environment, not just provide physical goodies. That takes generations. The good news is that for younger people, the sixties look really far away.
