Thanks for the reply. I'm sure the pointless bomb throwing will continue and then I won't feel guilty about another OT conversation. Hopefully we'll stop trying to channel Jonathan Swift, though. Thought I was having a flashback in the middle of a 'B' movie. Must have been attack of the 50 foot woman. But back to Adlai.
But we (college kids) believed he would change the world. And of course it was a hopeless campaign, though I really don't remember thhinking so at the time. Eisenhower was a decent moderate President and hadn't done badly in his first term; of course he was going to win easily.
You know you should've made a right turn at Albuquerque when Eisenhower looks better and better in the rear view mirror. My two takeaways from a historical read of his presidency: 1) Beware the military-industrial complex 2) Eisenhower interstate system as an example of big gov't project that worked. All "liberal" thinking now. heh.
All punk kids think they can change the world, it's a rite of passage. A few do, though the world changes everyone. I don't begrudge the youngsters their cause. They could go all the way.
If you people weren't so damned destructive HRC would have been our nominee five weeks ago and would be ahead of McCain by double digits. The economic news of today and the past two years proves it as she fares better than McCain in public trust economically by double digits.
If Hillary, Bill and Mark Penn had originally decided to campaign beyond Feb 4th, we probably wouldn't be at this point either.
This is the fault of the leftwing nutbirds alone and I'm done with you. Permanently. I want no part of a party with you at all.
Good. You can start the Shawn party. You should solict donations from the over 13.5M people that voted for Obama. Ought to be enough to start your own blog.
You may be too young to have actually lived through a presidential election, but unless you are completely daft, you would be aware that McCain would be drilling on Obama's inexperience regardless of whether or not Clinton did it first. --Rosenkavilier
And you're old enough to know that Clinton handed McCain that sound-bite on a platter wrapped with a bow. I can hear the intro now: "And, my friends, even fellow democrats like Senator Hillary Clinton think BLAH BLAH BLAH ".
It was an ill-advised remark. I would how the super delegates are responding to it.
My question is, what kind of monster is Hillary? I think she'd be an Addams Family member. She's neat, sweet, and petite.....well, two out of three ain't bad.
Haven't seen her around here lately. Maybe you're thinking the Meunsters instead. Always was on good ground with Herman.
A lot of tough attacks are made from that side but very few are personal insults and denigration of Mr. Obama's character or looks or secret motives. Far as I can tell, "empty suit" is about as mean a personal comment as we can find.
So what do you think of the "cult" meme that was widely reported as being pushed by ex Salonista Sidney Blumenthal? I've noticed usage of it dying down in the posts lately, with a few notable exceptions. This is offensive to me on two fronts.
First, it de-humanizies Obama supporters by portraying them as weak, non-rational, mindless thralls.
Second, every cult has a cult leader. So the implication is that Obama is Jim Jones, David Koresh, or those funky asteroid dudes. Take your pick.
Clinton supporters didn't really mean to imply all of the above? My bad.
I've seen plenty of crap from both sides to know that I'm tired of counting and figuring out whether sally or johnny is the meanest, and anyways, s/he started it first!

Clinton’s camp has been circulating stories criticising the “cult” of Obama in the hope of portraying “Obamania” as a mass delusion. Media Matters, a watchdog organisation sympathetic to Clinton, compiled a report headlined, “Media figures call Obama supporters’ behaviour ‘creepy’, compare them to Hare Krishna and Charles Manson followers”.
It was forwarded by Sidney Blumenthal, a top Clinton adviser, to select reporters.
