Forces of Protection and Change
[Read the article: Oligarchical decay]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think that Glenn and Digby are just catching up in their analyses and realizations to where I believed the country sank long ago.
But in terms of who will save the country, I don't think that we the people have the financial and military resources to mount an effective expulsion of the fascists and the Republican party (which I deem the center of US fascism and the hideout of the corporatists). We certainly do not have a critical mass of elected representatives who are protecting and defending the Constitution and who are responsive to the will of we the people.
However, and I tremble at even writing this, after having ruminated on retired military leader comments and statements, I am beginning to wonder if the disaffected military isn't already putting up a wall of increasingly passive resistance and, if they perceive a grave internal threat, might not act.
One example of this was documented at this post:
http://tousall.blogspot.com/2007/10/it-takes-network-to-defeat-network.html
I also wonder at what other countries are planning and plotting as they watch our ever-perilous foreign debt, outsourcing of jobs and raw materials, import/export ratio flipping, and descent of the US population's health, reliable housing, transportation, food supply and energy - the essential quality of life indicators.
Beyond cheap real estate, do these countries view the US as becoming an entity that is seen as a rogue nuclear weapons state? If so, what are they planning to do to protect themselves from the US? What are they planning to do to influence policy and government in the US?
It's time to bury the assumption that the US is an untouchable sole superpower. That hegemony is outdated.
We now are a largely disenfranchised people, at the mercy of military/industrial/fossil fuel production corporatists, and it's this base which controls every aspect of our daily lives from government to the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the shelters in which we abide.
We are no longer a nation which respects the rule of law. Those laws are used almost exclusively now to control, subdue and render us impotent and irrelevant except to serve as serfs and consumers by which to benefit the corporatists.
An active resistance is imperative, and as I have written in previous comments, the biggest functions we can serve are as voters and news mongers.

It's all about heart
[Read the article: Oligarchical decay]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]@ bebop-o
Cour = heart. Caring presupposes empathy - having heart for another.
May that distinction always be at the fore of these discussions.
Corporations - heartless.
Progressives - heart-warming, with heart, courageous, for the love of fellow person, love of nature, love of democracy, love of inalienable rights.
From the poet, comes the truth.
Thanks, loving, patriot.

@ Che Pasa
[Read the article: Oligarchical decay]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We're doomed.
Not so fast, there. There are some key differences. For one, we are not yet silenced. The blogosphere is where the resistance is playing out. There are still a few dissenting voices on teevee and the radio. And traditional media members are themselves, self-declared liberals or progressives.
There is the increasingly disaffected military with leaders who are standing between assult and attack on Iran (the stance under Gates and the Navys Joint Chiefs leadership is strikingly different than that under Rumsfeld, Myers and Pace).
There is a reason that retired military are saying without qualification and reservation that WWIII is not imminent, and that the US will not attack Iran. They aren't speculating. They are declaring.
There is the opinion of the world court. There is increasing foreign debt.
And there is the notion that there is no true Siberia of isolationism efficacy. You can stuff a large number of people in the detention camps across America, but the prisons are already full. I don't believe that a critical mass can be disappeared in the same manner and to the extent that was affected in Russia and the USSR.
Our roles, should we choose to accept them, are to resist, to craft and disseminate the resistance and patriot message and to elect people who will commit to and carry out the restoration of the Constitution.
Let's not predict doom - yet.

Constitutional Convention
[Read the article: Oligarchical decay]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn:
In the interest of public education, would you please consideer writing a post about the mechanics and legal aspects of a second Constitutional Convention?
Question for everyone: Which blogs and websites might be considered the bastions of "the fascism resistance" in the US?
I don't mean candidate sites or elect Democrat website, but centers for monitoring evidence of fascism, military operations, intelligence operations, Constitutional breaches, corporatism and the resistance thereof.
Don't for a moment think that the DHS and NSA don't know. I remember full well the shock of seeing those agencies, as well as the Pentagon, cabinet departments and White House appear as visitors on my little blog. So we should at least make these resources known to ourselves and others who might be interested and assist ourselves in organizing and strengthening our awareness and ability to act.
