After you, my dear sir
[Read the article: The "bitter" vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In retrospect, the challenges between Hillary and Obama reminds me of my parents--my father/Obama
a tall, handsome, southern gentleman (who had to be waited on: comb his hair, massage his feet, leave the documents of his work as a school principal to my mother, keep his suits hung by color, ties hung by color, shoes polished)
My mother, president of her college class,
a beauty, a poet, author of the college annual--
and beast of burden though bouyed up by her
skills in cooking,gardening,teaching children who
grew up to be stars in their stations, inventive flower arrangements, articulate to the point that she could win the discussion, and at a school
even could run a Major into the ground playing checkers.
But who got the laurels, the adulation, the
lines of women who brought him pound cakes, and
jelly, and whatever his fancy for delicacies.
That was the way of the world 70 years ago. And,
alas, as Hillary the woman my mouther could--and could not--be has the answers, the explanations, the numbers, the expansive grasp of a president's
job,the welcomes she has already had among many countries--doesn't she already know the ropes; yea. Don't we women know that she learned it all while she raised Bill by hand?
Never mind color or race. The smiling Obama
will have someone to fan him with a peacock fan
and whisper to him what to say.

Who leads? Who follows?
[Read the article: Attention, pundits. It ain't over]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Little wonder so many failed Democrats rally round Obama.
Hillary will lead. She already knows who's who.
She already knows the in's and out's of who would be best in one Cabinet seat or the other.
The non-Hillary's will be wooing Obama for one Cabinet post or another. He can be lead because he is inexperienced. He will lean on his Democratic followers.
Hillary already has it all laid out. Not nearly as many openings as Obama will fill.
Hillary is already in command, already familiar with protocols, already known by foreign leaders, already on course to what must be done.
Obama, one year in the Senate--who did not vote for war in Iraq because he was not in Washington to vote--will have many openings for people who must lead and coach him.
By any measure, Hillary is powerful.
Obama is surrounding himself with people who want to be powerful.
Women as strong and smart as Hillary are not as appealing or as available as a junior Senator who has many favors to distribute.
