  • Most Celt fans knew how this game would end up

[Read the article: Lakers beat Celtics: Was the fix in again?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I watched the game in a bar last night, a definite no-no when I know I'm going to really get into a game. But I knew it would be a Lakers win so no need too expend to much energy - got to save some emotion for later games.

I'm still proud of my team. Despite the free throw differential and the ticky-tack fouls that kept Pierce out most of the game, they kept it close and had a legitimate chance to pull it out. That's all you can ask for, really, given that EVERYBODY knew the fouls were going to go the Lakers way since Sunday and they were a pissed off Lakers team who feels that the championship is their right because they have Kobe. And, well, Bennett Salvatore WAS officiating.

A few things do still bode well for the Celts.

    1. Gasol still seems like a bust at this moment, not even able to break double figs again despite some very favorable rolls (please, Pau, next time you accidentally tip a missed shot in for the offensive rebound, don't act like you meant to do it). Ditto for Odom.

    2. Rondo's injury looks to be alot less serious than those excruciating replays showed. A Sam Cassell led Celts team has no chance.

    3. One of these days (I hope), Kobe will be called for that second technical. If the first T was "showing up" the refs (didn't you zebras get the memo, I'm supposed to get all the calls this game!!) then how is running around flapping your arms for 15 seconds after a call doesn't go your way not "showing up" the officials? Because he wasn't directing his "motherfuckers" at anyone in particular?

    4. Ray Allen is looking reborn. Hopefully I didn't just jinx him.

    5. The Celts still just need to steal one game in LA. They came real close last night. Pierce was 2-14. He shoots his usual 40-50%, the game's over...

  • Mailed-in...

[Read the article: Superstar rules help the Lakers]

I feel a bit like my Celts kinda mailed this one in toward the end - after proving once again (twice in the game, actually) that no lead the Lakers have is safe.

Now back to Boston, where, if only 3 more calls go the Celtics way, there will be a banner hanging in the garden that starts with a two...

  • @cyclade + King

[Read the article: Superstar rules help the Lakers]

Adding to the international play frustration is the Olympic people's (King: what blue-ribbon commission decides these things anyhoo, and what's their title?) inability to actually put together a REAL basketball team - you know, 2 guards, 2 forwards and a center. The last international abomination the US fielded was known in some circles as the all-forward team! So much so that there was no one to direct the offense. The fact that Kobe is on the 2008 Olympic squad does not bode well either...

If its OK with KING, I'd like to get slightly off-topic and wonder what he thinks of Cleveland's decision not to let Ilgauskas play for the Lithuanian team in the Olympics? Technically, couldn't the NBA severely handicap the international competition by doing the same to ALL foreign athletes in their league. Yes, I'm aware that "insurance" issues are in play, but c'mon, that's a horrible excuse, especially since this is probably the last chance Ilgauskas has to compete in the Olympics AND he's obviously a great talent that could carry them far?

  • Wow...

Just... WOW! I knew my guys had it in them. But, the last thing anyone expected was how easy this last game would be. The Lakers, happy to not have the celebration on their home court, looked resigned at about halfway through the 2nd quarter.

No need for analysis on this one. As King said, the Celts dominated EVERY aspect of the game!

Wow!!!! Congrats to 2 excellent players who finally got some respect (KG + Ray). Much love to Pierce, who stuck with this franchise through thick and thin (and Antoine Walker) and has taken his rightful place with other Celtic greats. He may not be as great as Bird or Russell, but he's great in his own way, in his own time..

  • I might add...

Great thing about such a lop-sided loss? No whining about the refs..

Although 3 techs on the Celts.....?

As someone who has lived in both LA and Mass, I'll take Mass anytime, unless you can afford to live on the beach...

Most of So Cal is like Iraq, weather wise, 3-4 months of the year and apparently you have a 25% chance of losing your house to wildfire..

  • I don't know if this had been said before, but..

[Read the article: Why Clinton voters say they won't support Obama]

To ALL of Hilary Clinton's supporters: I'm sorry. Truly, deeply sorry. I just wanted you to know that.

    Sincerely, an Obamaton.

  • mmmm.... Olivia Munn....

Any excuse to see more of Ms. Munn is OK in my book!

  • Seriously, people!

This is what is called "running to the middle". It's not a new concept and McCain is attempting it as well with his clumsy swipes at "Greening" his campaign.

Not 2 days ago Salon posted an article about the electoral college math and the voters that Obama needs to make inroads in to win this thing. Now we're worried about his stance on child rape in the context of the Supreme Court finding.. IN OUR FAVOR ("our" being the anti-DP crowd)!? You think Obama wins any white blue collar males by appearing soft ON CHILD RAPE (cause that's what the viral email will claim, that he's practically a child rapist himself by proxy)? Are you crazy?!?!

This is why Repubs have "code words": So they can promise judiciousness and moderation without any worry by their base that they actually mean it or intend to eventually govern that way.

Maybe progressives should have a safe word too? I nominate "Hope".
