Are you suggesting that we run someone who HAS NO questionable ties? Those people don't exist in the world of politics. Hell, those people don't exist in life!

You are correct that Con 527's will try to fashion any issue out of whole cloth - we just witnessed it 4 years ago - its even been given a name: "swift-boating". Responses to these things are often the key to diffusing them quickly. They can be laughed off in some cases, but as in Kerry's case, they do have to be addressed. Obama shown an ability to do this, sometimes surprisingly easily, so I'm not worried. Especially about Rezko.

A press release takes care of Rezko, especially since all the cable news shows want to talk about is "what Hillary wants" in order to properly concede.

...that foul discrepancy can also be attributed to a team's ability to play GOOD defense. When the Celts play good "D" they get up on a player, always putting a hand up, cutting off passing lanes, blocking out, etc.

The Lakers seem to think defense is slapping wildly at players shooting hands or pushing them down when they've been blocked out for a rebound or had an effective screen set on them. The 2 early fouls that they called on King Kobe were legit. The first he threw Pierce to the ground instead of going around the screen - I'm sorry, but that's a foul. The second, an offensive foul that was called when Kobe elbowed Ray Allen in the neck to create space, was so blatant and right in front of an official - I mean that gets called 90% of the time if your last name isn't Bryant... That seemed to be Kobe's problem last night: "I thought we had an understanding, refs?" If he going to get the benefit of the doubt he needs to incorporate push-offs into he flow of his motion - alá MJ on Bryon Russel - so that its not so obvious.

I too, as a Celts fan, was disappointed at the officiating during the 4th quarter as well. Breakaway steal or no, you're just not allowed to slow down to take three steps for the finishing dunk! Yes, all of us in Celtic nation were sweating at the end of that game and we were a little embarrassed that the Lakers had made in that close. But we're also consoled by the fact that the Lakers had to set a new NBA record for 3s (7 of 7!!!) in order to even get close and that the Celts tend to be "all-business" when they're on the road. No getting to satisfied with yourself when obscenities rain down on you and Nicholson is all but tackling you from his courtside seat!

On a side note - anybody else already sick of Mark Jackson's color commentary which seems to consist of using his "preacher voice" as an outro to a highlight? "Get in my poster!" has already been used twice in 2 games (KG on Gasol in the first game, Gasol on KG in the second: maybe they have poster contracts with each other?) which begs the question: do NBA players still have posters?

  • Mr. Franklin, maybe YOU should pay attention...

Not to flog an expired equine but, as a few other posters have noted, the foul disparity was actually 28-21, adv. Celts. The 38-10 stat you quote is the FREE THROW difference attributed, accurately, to many of the fouls called against the Celts were not in the act of shooting.

As others had mentioned, the disparity with 6:00 to go was only 2 fouls, and the Lakers ballooned it to 7 with intentional fouling in the closing minutes. I do believe that King has done a few columns on how dubious the intentional foul strategy can be, as well as how it ruins the game for the fans sometimes. Perhaps he could reiterate this point for the newbies (and with the new blog format, it can be done quickly and effectively)..

  • "Gasol needs to lay somebody the fuck out in Game 3."

There's that winning attitude! A 2 game suspension will do alot to "change the refs attitude", I'm sure. Of course, it might also become Gasol's last game of the season.

But it won't happen. I give you Pau Gasol: the uglier Dirk Nowitski. I'm sorry, but European players just don't "lay someone the fuck out". It's not in their DNA. If the Lakers wanted that they should have held onto Robert Horry!

[Read the article: Rep. Kucinich introduces articles of impeachment]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...I wish that Rep. Kucinich would put the same amount of effort into making sure Ohio goes for Obama in November. A 10% uptick in Democratic support in his (mostly Democratic) district would go alot further to accomplishing Rep. Kucinich's goals than this pissing in the wind will.

Hell, Just making sure that there are enough voting machines at polling places in his district might even accomplish that goal!

The real problem with stunts like this is that they will be used by the other side to argue that the "moonbats" shouldn't be put in charge because all we'll do is spend 4 years rubbing the conservatives' collective nose in Bush's doo-doo. In that sense, it seems a bit selfish and arrogant given that if McCain is elected, you can be sure that NO ONE from the Bush administration will be held accountable... ever!
