  • Trent Reznor is a musical genius!

Just add "media mogul" to his long list of accomplishments. As someone who owns the Wax Trax 12" vinyl of "Down in it" - purchased in 1989 - this has been a long, fun trip! And he just keeps getting better!

Now, if I can just convince the wife (our first "date", incidentally, was a NIN concert supporting the "Downward Spiral" album – I wore fishnets, hot-pants and combat boots – she fell in love) that the $300 is a worthwhile investment...

The choice of Fred Armison to "be" Obama had me scratching my head too. Although truthfully, most comedians would get at least 50% of Obama wrong, being that he is of mixed descent. He's just not impersonating him well - Daryl Hammond (who does a dead-on Jesse Jackson) should take him aside for a few days and whip him into shape. Farrell (of course) did the best Bush, (Forte just makes me want to whip something at the TV) but it was all about attitude, and nothing about how much he physically resembled Bush. Poehler does a fine Hillary. Forgive me if I don't want to see it for another 4+ years (along with Hammond's BC)

As far as where they're finding their talent: Poehler was a founding member of UCB and I'm sure Lorne Michaels visits all the requisite young comedy troupes searching for talent. His waning taste, plus the fact that their best writer (Fey) and straight man (Parnell) just left the show last season, they might have to get into the swing of things for this truncated season. Maybe longer. The best stuff from last season was Andy Samberg's stuff, but thanks to "Hot Rod" we've seen how his 3 minute gags lose steam real fast!!

I also wonder about this blatant pro-Hillary stance that just has to be coming from Michaels. Smeigel always been "that way" (Hell-o, "Ambiguously Gay Duo" anyone?) although I'd love to see Triumph's take on Hillary... for me to poop on!

  • Bill Clinton said it best...

...when stumping for John Kerry in 2004:

"Now one of Clinton's 'Laws of Politics' is this: If one candidate is trying to scare you, and other is trying to get you to think... If one candidate is appealing to your fears, and the other's appealing to your hopes... You better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope!"

I bet Bill can't wait to get his legacy back...

  • I'd also like to add..

..that as much as I'd like to read the letters section. This one's getting a bit off topic. Here's the facts on the ground:

In order for Clinton to pull even with Obama in pledged delegate count, she will have to win 60% of the remaining primary/caucus states. Clinton has yet to win 60% of any of the primary/caucus states so far. This, given the schedule of remaining contests, is a one-in-a-hundred chance.

So my question to the Hillary supporters here is this: Given these hard numbers, what is Clinton's impetus for staying in the race past today beyond her own needs?

Far be it from me to suggest that political memes from the 1988 election ("tax and spend" is certainly a bit more honest than "borrow and spend", although YOU won't be the one paying it back) are a bit passé, but you do know that Clinton's and Obama's cost virtually the same?

We could have flown to the moon, given everyone over the age of 55 a gold-plated Cadillac, AND insured every man, woman and child in America for what the Iraq war has cost us SO FAR...

McCain will continue Bush's war and tax cuts for the wealthy. Since so-called "earmarks" make up a sliver of a percentage of what the military is currently charging us, the "borrow and spend" Republican ways are unlikely to stop under McCain.

Colbert was right.. facts have a well-known liberal bias.

And this point I will grant you: we obviously cannot withdraw from Iraq as quick as most Dems/libs would like, for your stated reasons as well as a few more.

But lets be truthful, its the treasure part of the "blood and treasure" that concerns most people - no disrespect to loved ones of those serving, but the # of dead soldiers would be a small blip on most people's radar if not for other extenuating factors.

Of course the way to spend less treasure is to try to rebuild a new coalition, bring in International forces, get some of our so-called "allies" (e.g., Saudi Arabia - its the LEAST they could do) to help us out. I don't think that McCain can do that.
