Swilldog...
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's been my experience from posting on various semi-military blogs ("semi" meaning retired or wannabe - there's alot of wannabes out there - funny cause the army could really use the help) that they are unusually offended at the mere mention that their black and white worldview is in direct correlation to the "deprogramming" that happens in basic.
Instilled with a zealousness that is only reinforced by the fact that they spend 99% of their lives with other military personnel or families of the military, they are unable to see any other viewpoint but their own infallible, programmed and government-approved viewpoint.
I've spent hours trying to explain to right-wing bloggers that mili-bloggers who write about the overwhelming success of the "surge" are only parroting, knowingly or unknowingly, their superior's viewpoints. Superiors, who in turn are only parroting their superiors' ad infinitum all the way up to the commander-in-chief.
Like your original post said, its what the basic training program was designed to do: "Question Authority" could be deadly when bullets are flying by. But it does fuck with your independent reasoning skills.
Just don't mention it to active military. No one likes to be told that they are unable to think for themselves, despite whether its rather obvious that they can't.

"Their team doesn't get on my nerves, their fans do."
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And then you turn around and base this assertation on fictional characters played by actor extraordinaire Jimmy Fallon? Get a grip - stop lumping. If everyone who wasn't a Yanks or Sox fans stopped watching FOX/ESPN broadcasts of their games, there wouldn't be enough interest to justify the broadcast - so someone else HAS to be watching...
True story: 4th game of the WS in 2004. It's the 8th inning. It's 4-1. It's looking pretty much like we're actually going to see a WS win for the beloved Sox in our lifetime (my dad died in 2001, just in time to miss 3 Patriot champs and 1 Sox champ). I turn to my friend who is an even bigger "jinx" believer than me and said "If god came down right now and said you can have one of 2 things: A Red Sox World Series Championship or a John Kerry Presidency, I'd totally pick a John Kerry Presidency." My friend, without hesitation, knowing he could be jinxing the whole thing (the whole theory of jinxing is absurd, isn't it?), said "Oh, God yes, in a second!"
That's how self-obsessed we Red Sox fans are in real life. And my heart broke a little bit when Schill turned up, less than a week after the greatest sports moment in my lifetime, on a podium with my worst fear: the 2nd term of the Bush presidency!!!!

Pulling a "Wes"...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hockey was boring enough (at least on TeeVee) AND then they went and cancelled a whole season...
And you wonder why the sport has become a not-so funny joke...

Pulling a "Wes" (part 2)
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Did I mention that Hockey sucks...
And so does Marino Rivera ("just doesn't have location", hah!)...

Pulling a "Wes" (part 3)
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Soccer" sucks too...

KStone...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Perhaps Jonathan Papelbon need better location tonight."
Yea, like somewhere that wasn't Oakland. Oh, well. Can't save them all. Just ask Rivera. He knows...
How many homers did the Slugging% King (ARod) hit in the 10-1 blowout last night? Real clutch, that guy...

"The real problem though is the narcissistic prima donna approach too many NBA referees have with their job."
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well at least the average NBA player is being reffed by a peer...
Non-story. Really.
As to the whole Western Conference Finals as the "real" finals meme: I'm always curious as to what this is based on. True, the lower tiers of the playoff teams in the East tend to be a bit crappier than the West's counterparts. But, once you get past the pretender round, you can't tell me there's a significant difference between the final four of each conference.
Add to that the fact that the East and West are split evenly over the last four championships (Lakers, Pistons, Spurs, Heat), it would be a tremendous mistake for any team coming out of the Western Conference Finals to think they have it "in the bag" (despite what Charles Barkley says).

Ah yes...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If its about race, Thrasher will be there, making sure everyone knows how much he despises racism AND other minorities.
Certainly no conflict of interest here.
At least its not the Jew sportswriter's fault this time.

Olbermann bias quotes
[Read the article: Brit Hume is a "journalist"; Keith Olbermann is "partisan"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet - I'm having trouble getting through the "libertarian" debate portion of the letters - but a good source of possible Olbermann bias might be found at "oblbermann Watch" (http://olbermannwatch.com/).
I say "might" because I can't stand the site or its lame excuse for watchdoggery and can't be bothered to even argue with the dolts who populate their comments section. Watch its 5 minute "gaff" video on Olbermann's debte coverage and you'll get what I mean. Troll or Spam them a bit (they're closet Bill-O fans who aren't very good at hiding the fact that the only reason). Do it for freedom!

From the speeches he's given...
[Read the article: Fred Thompson's biggest role yet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...Thompson is just Bush with the "movie trailer guy" voice.
"In a world where liberals want us all to die, one man dares to speak truthiness to power..."
It could work, although I'm hoping that most of the voting public (besiedes the 28%ers) are getting sick of the "your liberal neighbor wants you and your children dead" meme by now...
