  • Apparently, KStone is a chargers fan...

744 letters and counting! Boy, does your opinion matter!

Lou Ann, Buster is King's son, not his "imaginary friend". Yes, he named his son "Buster" - and his daughter "Daisy" - par for the course when your name is "King"...

  • Kstone pwned!

...by reap. Math is not your friend, my friend...

"Facts is facts". If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard that on wingnut blogs... Problem is, facts change as new information come to light, and in light of new info, the Chargers had an easy schedule. Not Bears-easy, but pretty easy...

  • That brings back memories!

William Jennings Bryan's "Cross of Gold" speech? I haven't heard about that since college! Ahh, college...

Anyone else find it amusing that as proof that Ford has been "passed by" history, the author regales us with a tale of a 100-year-old presidential primary battle? From the losing side!

Too much Doris Kearns Goodwin for you!

  • Mugged...

Caldwell was mugged in the endzone on the Pats go ahead drive. 4-pt difference in score. Phantom roughing-the-passer call extending the Colts go ahead drive. Yeah, Manning got the monkey off his back the only way he could - some extra help from "the prisoners".

And its a testament to the NE fans good nature that you haven't heard more of this like last year's many phantom calls.

    Go Bears!

  • It will always be a mystery to me...

...how people who have never attended a college can get so worked up about said colleges sports teams.

I grew up in SoCal but have never once wasted more than 10 minutes thinking about USC or UCLA. Or Fresno, for that matter.

Now living in Chicago, I also give the same amount of time to Nothwestern or the Illini — meaning almost none. I found it fascinating that the vast majority of people who attended Notre Dame football games (my brother attended) were toothless townies. I mean, is Northern Indiana that crappy? Rhetorical question.

  • Again, that's not a question about hair...

I find myself wishing that I'd done this...

And yes, we are all taking ourselves way too seriously. I'm pretty sure that real bombs will probably not have little martians on them, flipping the bird to all, alerting the world to their presence.

Of course, now that Adult Swim has shown the terrorists the way, who could say? Maybe they'll have a flashing Mohammad flipping the bird on IEDs in Iraq?

  • Either this story was just posted...

  • What I really want to know...

Does Peyton Manning's value as a corporate shill increase or decrease if he wins Sunday?

  • The best part about this topic:

No complaints about King phoning it in by talking about Superbowl commercials today! AND not a single post from Wes or McCool (who both also recently came out of the closet)!!

Anyway, just wanted to float a thought I had about the subject: It has been documented that the African Americam community as a whole has a higher average rate of homophobia than other races.

    www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/12/19/opinion/polls/main589551.shtml www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040405&s=trb040504

What with majority of African Americans being either protestant or muslim (and regarding mainstream protestant and muslim doctrine on gays) this is hardly surprising. The Latino community, due in great part to their pre-Vatican 2 catholicism, also has a documented higher rate of opposition to gays.

Given that the playership NBA is made up of a disproportionate (as compared to the general populace of the US) percentage of African Americans, one can hardly fault someone for remaining, professionally, in the closet.

That being said, it is my personal opinion that the first major sport player to come out might not be as targeted or ostracized as we may think they'll be. Human nature works wonders that way. Oh, sure, they'll be some a-hole from another team who'll spout off about this or that, but I think that the gay players teammates would be supportive: nothing destroys pre-conceived notions or bigotry like human contact.

  • Anna Nicole, America's Swetheart.

[Read the article: Goodbye, Vickie Lynn]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

She epitomizes the debt-ridden, celebrity-obsessed, psuedo-intellectual society that has been the norm in the US since the beginning of the reign of King George. Looks and the lifestyle are what matters, not the humanity or the responsibility. Someone once said that we get the leaders we deserve. Apparently, that goes for our celebrity culture as well.

And can we please stop with the "What about the Children?" hand-wringing. The fact that most 13-year-olds in the US have more disposable income than anyone in the 3rd World is the reason why our culture (TV, music, literature) has become so moronic. I don't expect kids to know what's valuable, but I do expect the adults to provide some minimal guidance on the subject...

...Alex's letter would get a star!

I'm actually feeling insulted that Salon felt I needed to be warned about how bad "Norbit" was going to be.

Anyway, enough with that. Anyone know when "The Host" is releasing stateside?
