"Say what you want about John McCain and his campaign, but if Barack Obama wins by seven or eight points, or fewer, we may legitimately conclude that Obama lost the campaign but won the election."
We may also conclude that the right tried to steal the election and failed by those 7-8 points. Then again, they may succeed. It's all about winning and destroying the left. Nothing else matters to them - except making a lot of money in the process.
Diebold may have changed its name, but their voting machines are still unreliable and prone to hacking.Let's hope the right doesn't steal the election - again.
See "http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10432334/was_the_2004_election_stolen" for Robbert Kennedy, Jr.'s article on the subject. Or click on the signature link.
I don't know about all those people writing in such a negative way. There are swarms of right-wingers who have made it their mission to go to sites like salon.com to register their view and make people think that there are more of them than there are.
Funny how the right professes their love of America yet tramples on our constitution. I for one want the ACLU to find out what the US Army is up to, and more important, make sure they obey the law (whowever "they" are). Duh!
I read somewhere that these troops will train in dealing with mobs (read into that what you will).Sounds like Bush and Co. are out breaking the law again.
Thanks Glenn for bringing the news to our attention. That's why I subscribe to salon.com.
So why can we no longer view this musical masterpiece?
I've been intrigued by people who vote against their own interests, so when I found out that a woman friend who owns a fiercely liberal Mexican restaurant in LA is going to vote for McCain, I found my chance to learn what's going on.
The short version is that she doesn't like those uppidy Harvard elites. But, I said, McCain is hardly a working class stiff. On she went but it was clear that logic had nothing to do with it. She didn't like Obama as SHE perceived him, and that was all it took. The Right understands that people vote their emotions and tailors the TV ads accordingly. The result is Joe Six-pack Bush.
Is there hope for this country?
McCain believes he will surge as the come-back kid at election time. Does He Know Something We Don't Know?
The right is busy trying to steal the election. The question for the rest of us is whether they will succeed for a third time.
I checked out your links and I see: On February 4, 1985, the Convention was opened for signature at United Nations Headquarters in New York. At that time, representatives of the following countries signed it: Afghanistan, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Senegal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Uruguay. Subsequently, signatures were received from Venezuela on February 15, from Luxembourg and Panama on February 22, from Austria on March 14, and from the United Kingdom on March 15, 1985.
The USA isn't listed.
If I go to http://www.hrweb.org/legal/catsigs.html,I see that the USA is listed:
States which have Signed but not yet Ratified the Convention Against Torture
Not ratified? Please clarify if signing is enough for it to be the law of the land.
I no longer think I'm missing something. The Right is missing something - a lot. They've had their tax cuts many times over. They've de-regulated as much as they could. All this and the country is in big trouble as a result.
The right-wingers seem to be stuck with the same phrases and oblivious to what's happening. I mean, didn't they notice that ALL the Republicans voted against the bill. Don't they know that the vote was a rejection of Obama's bipartisanship?
So Alex, tell us what's going on at the hill. Is the political fog so thick that no one there can see straight? Are these people fools, idiots, or crafty denizens of the deep? Do they even notice their own hypocrisy? What's going on???
The right wing amazes me. One moment they pour billions of dollars into the banks, and keep on pouring. The next moment they attack Obama for spending money on programs that help average people. I mean, why are bankers OK, but the average citizen isn't?
I've had plenty of training in emergency response as an emergency disaster worker.
In the name of safety, you have to have the name of each person going out in the rescue, what time they left, where they went, and in this case, some ID of the boat.
It's routine stuff, and it's all about accountability and safety. As near as I can figure from the Salon article, that's what it was about. If you have a lot of boaters standing around, it will take time to do this, but it has to be done. You don't want them randomly going off with no idea of where they will go or what they will do.
But it's really about the dishonesty of the right who seem determined to proof that govt. doesn't work.
