Duh, let me see if I can get this straight. As gas prices go up, we find that sales for imports, notably Toyota and Honda are rising, while sales of US cars are falling. The Asian cars get much better fuel economy, and the average person wants that.
Detroit doesn't want to improve their MPG standards, but if the US doesn't force them to, they face bankruptcy since people don't want to buy gas hogs.
So what will it be? Force higher MPG, or watch Detroit go out of business? The dim-witted executives of Detroit are too short-sighted to do what's best for their company.
And if you don't think gas prices will rise, then go even higher, boy do I have a bridge to sell you.
If we can get Bush and Company impeached (Bush, Cheney), the next step is to turn them over to the UN to be tried for war crimes. We can include Rummy at no additional charge. Then the US will again be a Democratic coutry that the world can look up to.
Birth control is so common that people forget that it used to be against the law to use condoms in 1900.
The same people who wanted to regulate our sex lives are back again.
I'm in the publishing business so maybe I can speak with some authority here.
I think that the people at Random House say that the quotes are "fair use," meaning that the material quoted is a small amount used for commentary and or review purposes. (They weren't quotes? Well, that's your opinion.)
This way a writer can quote a few lines from a book and not have to pay for the quote or ask permission for the quote. That's, er, fair enough, but in practice, it gets vague. The LA Times charged me over $200 to quote a few sentences from an editorial. But I asked, paid, and received permission.
If you don't ask permission to quote material, you are wide-open for a lawsuit if the aggrieved part can afford to hire a lawyer and pay the retainer.
So yes, they're right, but not really. Is that clear? Welcome to the world of publishing and copyright. If you're an author, better show the quotes and ask permission. Did I say you should show that you're quoting?
The neocons mentioned in this article are certainly a feisty group.
They want stronger action than talk, which can only mean more wars.
Stand tough, fight back. That is their mentality.
Rice is in trouble for listening to the State Dept.?
I shudder to think of what this means in the long run.
Hmmm, and it also means they believe a stand tough policy will ensure the neocons stay in power.
I never dreamed that I would live to see the US turn into a Facist country bent on shaping the world to it's vision by force. But that is what's happening.
The article made no mention of all the lawsuits that Robert Kennedy Jr. has filed to prevent the coming crooked elections. I'd like to know how the lawsuits are going.
hello- salon?
Ironic isn't it that the people who scream of their love of America are quietly fixing the elections in their favor. And the more we give up and let them do it, the more they win.
The people who hate us must be laughing hard right now.We come across as such idiots.
After reading the book:
"Dangerous Waters: Modern Piracy and Terror on the High Seas" by John Burnett (Paperback - Sep 30, 2003), I'm convinced the next attack will be by ship. In the book I was shocked at not only how easy it is to steal a ship, but that it happens all the time in international waters.
It's easy. Load a freighter with explosives, or better, hijack a large oil carrier, sail into Long Beach, CA and BOOM.
Meanwhile, you cannot go on the plane with that bottled water. Sorry. Homeland Security.
Considering that most people don't vote at all, the procreation theory doesn't wash. And there's more.
The Right wing is in power because the old Southern Democrats, read, segregationists have gone to the party that best represents their views. Add to that voting irregularities, and an outright propaganda campaign from the right that feeds on the fears of the populace. Oh, and let's not forget the lack of real Democratic leadership, and a biased press. It goes on and on.
Sorry, lack of procreation is only a tiny aspect of the problem.
What happened to the Democrats?
Why are they so afraid to speak out?
Where is their outrage?
Is the media at fault?
Did Rove shut them down through intimidation?
What is going on?
I challenge Salon to get to the root of this:
Ask each of the Democrats from the Senate and House the above questions and more.
I tried and receive generic replies. Maybe we all should ask the questions to our Democratic representatives.
Otherwise, they will win, and the whole country will suffer badly for it. We're heading for a destroyed environment, collapsed economy, massive unemployment, and who knows what terrorist incidents fueled by the actions of Bush and Co.
We're heading that way now. What are you gonna do?
If the American people really want to apologize to the Iraqis and the world, they (we) will do two things:
1) Impeach Bush and Company for lying about the need to go do war (they planned the invasion before they even took office).
2) Send Bush and company to the Hague to be tried for war crimes.
"Big message of 2006: The American people have offered a stinging vote of "no confidence" in his presidency."
Now you're sounding like the right wingers about their landslide endorsement in the 2004 elections. It wasn't a landslide, nor was the latest vote a "stinging" response.
The right-wing is still close to taking over again. Bush and Co. are clinging to their right-wing corporate ways. The right owns much of the judicial system.
There's a long way to go
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
The accountability imposed by another country for the CIA's kidnapping and torture reveals much about our own.
Fox News' morning show plays to type, talking about whether Muslims in the Army should face "special debriefings"
The survivor and author is upset about comparisons some on the right are making to genocide
Once seen as a lunatic fringe, reactionary anti-women groups are courting respectability
