I think Jon Stewart was right about Tucker Carlson

Jon Stewart is popular because his faux news show reveals more truth than either Fox or CNN. Think about it - people getting better perspective from a comedy show than CNN. His calling Tucker Carlson a 'dick' on television capped a brilliant demolition of Crossfire that ultimately led to its cancellation. This isn't so difficult

Most of North America is part of an interconnected grid anyway, so the energy you are burning might actually be from a wind farm or coal plant in Alberta, a nuclear plant in Ontario, or a coal plant in the US. I live in Alberta and believe me, light bulbs won't cut it here for warming houses in winter. The less electricity we use, the better off we will be.

Let's find the most efficient way to heat our houses, and the most efficient way to illuminate them.

I trust them

So far, BSG has been terrific. This year is a little different, but the writers have done such a good job getting us here I'm inclined to follow them wherever they're taking us.

Besides, it's like sex or pizza: even when it's bad it's still pretty good.

I agree - Cally's death was quite a jolt.

Too bad

Too bad you gave that 'ad' attention and therefore airtime. There were about 1,485 other ads I would have rather seen first.

If the tables had been turned

Imagine if it had been Obama that had made a similar minor gaffe. Clinton would have beaten him up for it, stopping only when she had a fresh gaffe to attack him with. She calls it being tough, says that if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen, says that the President must be a fighter like her.

So Obama is giving her some of her own medicine. If he didn't do it pundits would say that he lacked toughness, the fighter's spirit, and that it proved that he couldn't stand up to McCain in a campaign.

I don't think that what Clinton said was so offensive, but it is nice to see her get a taste of her own medicine.

Offshore Drillling Has Come A Long Way

I worked for three and a half years in the Safety, Health, Environment and Security department of an offshore oil drilling company. We had rigs all over the world. Well control and enviromental management is critical in offshore drilling. I don't think that there would be much environmental impact at all if the US offshore was opened to drilling.

I agree with everything you said in your article except the part about the fouled beaches caused by oil spills. That may happen, but it is by no means a foregone conclusion. I think you will find that oil spills are more closely associated with oil transportation than offshore drilling.

Stop Whining

Obama has already won the support of Democrats, and is now trying to win Republicans away from McCain. Let him do his job and stop giving the Republicans ammunition. Democrats don't have an alternative.

And for God's sake, stop whining about the small details. You have a terrific candidate in Obama.

As for Nader - just stop talking about him, and he will go away. He is not going to win anything, and he is a distraction.

You want to know how to get the McCain Campaign back on track?

Are you nuts? Why?

Borrowing heavily from Napoleon, never interrupt your adversary when he is making a mistake. Let's see how this potential Commander-in-Chief navigates himself out of this thicket - and he can get his own map.

Why do Americans put up with it?

I was an EMT in Houston for four years before I returned to Canada. I loved the US, and hated the health care system. Canadians spend half as much on health care and live longer. It is a crime for a doctor to charge a co-pay to a patient. Imagine that - a crime.

I needed an MRI recently, and the waiting time was four weeks. I can live with that. If it was an emergency, I would get it immediately.

I have a great drug plan, so I can't spend money when I go to a doctor or a hospital. I just need my Alberta Health card and my secondary insurance card, which covers everything not covered by the government insurance. I pay $120 a month for the secondary insurance.

When John McCain tells you that 'Canada has socialized medicine where a government bureaucrat gets between a patient and his doctor' he is lying. He knows better. We have single-payer health care - I go to any doctor I want in Canada, and all the bills go to the government. I pay for it through my taxes. Employers can't pay for your insurance and remain price competitive with Canada or Europe - look what is happening to General Motors.

The answer is simple, but would require the country to stand up to the AMA and the health insurance industry.

I don't know why you guys aren't rioting in the streets over your health care system.

Don't Be Stupid

My ex-wife is an alcoholic. I tried to stick it out, for better and for worse and all that dogshit, and in the long run it cost me $250,000 in support payments and legal fees. Remaining with her after I had figured out what her problem was remains the greatest strategic error I have made in my life, and one that I regret every day. I should have opened my eyes and kicked her to the curb as soon as I realized she had a problem.

You only live once. The last thing you need is someone who can't control their drinking to fuck up your life.

Don't be stupid.

Ouch

I doubt if he found it funny at all. He was imprisoned, and didn't know that it was for life. I hope that the LW found some comfort in your answer, but I don't see how she could.

A Great Speech

I thought Joe Biden was terrific. He told a great story, and he came across as both ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. He will make a great VP.
