Eeeeeek! Good news! Off with their heads!

I hope you folks understand the phrase, "invested in defeat". It describes the politics of those that want the country to fail. That NEED it to fail, in order to advance their agenda. One can certainly understand dissent, disagreement, and different directions, but this is just loud, angry, denial that anything positive is possible.

Consider the reactions here. No "wait and see", no "it would be nice if true". The sentiment is outrage and defensiveness that any progress is possible. Glenn worked all night to find something to illustrate that these people are closet neocons, but found little to concoct smears. Is that all you people have to offer? Backbiting and character assassination?

I have no idea if what they say is true, nor does anyone else here. We haven't been to Iraq. But I hope it's true.

Maybe you folks should think about the idea, that requires failure of the country to make you happy. Whatever you choose to believe about how we got here is not terribly relevant anymore. Bush isn't running again. What you choose to believe about how to make this better IS relevant, as is the choice to root for surrender.

Well dear....

The country failed when it invaded Iraq. How we got here is quite relevant. What part of "war of aggression" and "war crime" don't you understand? -- Frankly, my dear, ..

....you can always vote for somebody other than Bush in 2008.

By the way, where was the enforcing body of that policy you cited when Hezbollah kidnapped soldiers and shot rockets into Israel?

I have no doubt that ....

HOW MANY HAVE DIED? Is it more than a million? -- Wesley_Powell

the next Lancet study published for the 2008 election, will put the figure at 3-10 million.

Apparently some NY guy is not actually in NY.

Shooter thinks Armstrong Williams has a show on Air America!

Keep that in mind when reading his comments; he's not merely stupid, he's hallucinating. -- SomeNYGuy

Hey dillweed. I listen to his show in the mornings on 1600AM (Air America NYC) on the way to the golf course. You owe me an apology.

re: Air America

WWRL is a radio station in New York City, broadcasting at 1600 kHz AM owned by Access.1 Communications. Since September 1, 2006, it is the flagship station of the Air America Radio network, replacing WLIB. It also carries some local programming, including the morning show with Armstrong Williams and Sam Greenfield, pre-empting Air America's The Young Turks, as well as the syndicated Doug Stephan and Alan Colmes.

Let me get this straight, Air America is so bad that it's FLAGSHIP station won't carry it's own programming? Well then, I guess I owe you folks apologies for assuming that programming on Air America's FLAGSHIP station was actually affiliated with Air America. Especially, for morning drivetime. LOL.

@ Retired Military Patriot

War and surge supporters put us into such a horrible human and strategic mess and then have the audacity to try and blame us and say, well if we are wrong, then you solve the problem.

Then we have a misunderstanding somewhere. Bush is doing what's necessary to solve the problem, and over the objections of the surrender crowd. Nobody is asking you to DO anything.

When your mind is closed and heart so hardened, just keep quiet for a while, truly examine the costs and then decide if you would like to help us work together to heal not harm. Is that asking too much?-- Retired Military Patriot

What are those costs? I think that most knowledgeable people believe that if we leave too early that civil war will really explode and the killing will be unprecedented. Is that acceptable to you? Not from what I've seen of your writing.

If that is indeed the case, I would think that any glimmers of hope would be nurtured and supported rather than have the authors of such hope vilified and drug through the dirt. But since that is indeed what is happening to these two, one can only assume that the prospect of positive events is anathema to quite a few here. I think that is a bizarre and troubling attitude. I would be surprised if you don't agree.

If you really want to save American lives.....

Over and over and over the death-mongers say foolish things like this. "Glimmers of hope", "turning a corner", "stand up stand down", "last throes", "dead-enders", "now that Saddam", "now that the 10**100th #2 guy had been killed/captured", is all excuses for your bone-headedly stupid Iraqi occupation. You are a disgrace to America. Go hang your head in shame. -- Wabanatta_3

Outlaw cars. Meanwhile we have this headline from AP....

U.S. Toll in Iraq Lowest in 8 Months
Some people might think that is cause for optimism. Apparently you don't. Who cares? Not me. Feel free to mope and whine to your hearts content. You are certainly in the right place for it.

re: Shooter read and think more

What would history and our world be like if your side had even a glimmer of foresight on the tragedy you glibly embarked on?

-- Retired Military Patriot

Sorry bud, wrong question. The correct one is "What would history and our world be like if WMD were used on the US? You like most here seem to forget that particular risk, or if I were less than charitable, don't care if a major city were felled by poison, disease, or worse. Even Blix said that Saddam was less than forthcoming just before we went in.

The gamble Bush had to assess, was the potential morass of invading Iraq against the potential damage WMD's could do if deployed. The unthinkable had already happened on 9/11. So I put it to you, without the benefit of hindsight, would invading Iraq be worse than losing thousands more Americans and crippling the country? Or would you rather take the chance that Saddam was bluffing with the possibility of being horribly wrong.

That dilemma is what got us there. The current dilemma is how to minimize the resulting trauma. We broke it, we should fix it.
