@ Karen M

My quarrel, if that's what it was, is/was not with those who have less sophisticated tools (I'm not that unreasonable), but with those who do have more options for expression, but choose not to use them, preferring to let us all be painted with the same broad brush.

There is a fellow named Evan Sayet that has a theory about the root motivation of the left. It's something along the line of.... if all persons refrain from being judgemental about other persons, we will have peace. I don't know if that is true basis of the left or not, but it explains quite a bit of what we on the right, consider irrational behavior. One of those behaviors is the adolescent predilection for foul language and being generally abusive, while expecting immunity from retribution or even negative judgement. All that is to say that you are right, he is wrong, and worse has no respect for women.

I can't remember where I heard it, but someone said that manners are the way one person shows respect for another. That is what this is about, respect. From what I've seen you deserve it, he doesn't. I can criticize but will be dismissed as someone that wants to take away all his rights by being judgemental.

Your observation above is right on the money. People that you know CHOOSE to be disrespectful should be corrected quickly and decisively. With freedom comes responsibility, something that all people need to learn. Being judgemental isn't being oppressive, it's teaching. Respect for other people is something quite a few here need to learn.

There is another saying that applies.... One can learn quite a bit about another by observing how they treat people that have no avenue for retribution. Waiters, domestics, and other commenters for instance. Someone that calls O'Donnell(who in the Hardball segment appeared pregnant) names behind her back for whatever reason reveals his true character, or lack thereof.

re: liberal media

why is it those who complain about how liberal the media are become outraged when you mention bringing back the fairness doctrine? You'd think they would be delighted at the prospect.

-- spixton

I see you don't understand how that works in real life. The liberal media thought it was mainstream, middle of the road, requiring no rebuttal. That effectively shut out conservative opinion completely. Censorship comes in many forms, that was one of the most insidious.

Zinni said we have to stay...

He is one of the left's prophets is he not? I caught him on one of the Sunday talk shows yesterday.

re: No, shooter, Zinni said the same thing that Sheehan said

Which one of these quotes from the transcript are you ignoring?

(1)"The second reality is that we cannot simply pull out, as much we may want to. The consequences of a destabilized and chaotic Iraq, sitting in the center of a critical region of the world, could have catastrophic implications."

(2)"I think it’s, it’s clear, though, that we cannot leave the region, we shouldn’t naively think we’re pulling out, that this is Somalia or Vietnam."

(3)"Go down and talk to the Democrats in the, in the Senate and the House,” what would you tell them and what would you tell him?

GEN. ZINNI: Well, I, I would go back to the realities that, that I wrote and you mentioned. Let’s face it, we’re not going to pull out. We can’t continue to go it alone, And we can’t continue to go it the way we are doing this now. We need to redesign a strategy."

I'd say that cements my observation that Zinni says stay, doesn't it? That said, I'm also a big fan of isolationism. Pull all the troops from everywhere. It will....

* Eliminate all US combat casualties

* Save so much money we can pay off all the US debt

* The world will love us for getting out of their business.

It is the best of all possible outcomes.

Just like "global warming"? Heh.

When you tend to "over-estimate" (exaggerate) threats (internal or external) for political reasons rather than assessing them realistically, maybe everything tends to look bigger than it really is through that lens...

When you're right, you're right.

...There comes a point when the views of the American people have to be heard. (My emphasis)

Dick Cheney was sitting right there, in the room, on the committee, when a member of his own party said this. It makes no difference whether these people think they're right. They have no right to be right.

-- ondelette

So when Congress voted in the affirmative on the AUMF for Iraq, it was the people speaking and anyone that dissented has no right to be right. Well, thank you for your support of the war effort. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

Then just surrender....

I can understand why the right would consider this irrational behavior. I can also understand why the "Christian" right bears no resemblance to those who follow Christ's teachings of peace, love, and brotherhood.

-- Frankly, my dear,

The logical extension then is that you should roll over and contest nothing I say, much less be contentious. You are after all being judgemental.
