Glenn should be writing lawyer-based thriller novels......

Really. It would certainly make him some real money. He has a talent for getting people worked up via prose over imaginary scenarios.....

And the very last thing that ought to be considered is vesting further eavesdropping power in an administration that still insists there are no valid limits on its eavesdropping powers, particularly until we have learned how they exercised those surveillance powers when they were used, for years, in secret and in violation of the law. -- Glenn Greenwald

In other words, we don't know if Bush did anything wrong, but because we've framed him as a Nazi liar, he must have. Run away, run away.

Glenn goes for the "you did it too defense" centuries late.

Golden Boy -- Why can't you condemn Islam in(at least) the same terms that you condemn Christianity, and for the same reasons?

That's the whole point of the post.-- GlennGreenwald

No, it isn't. The point of the post is to condemn religion in general, and Republicans in particular. The problem, as Golden Boy points out is that the result is also a tacit approval of terrorism. To quote Glenn....

"Thus, every religion has extremists driven to violent and illegal acts in the name of their religion." AND "Today's anti-Muslim warrior ritual is based upon nothing more substantial than the series of exciting loud noises and bulk cell phone purchases at various Wal-Marts that proved to be so disappointing."

This doesn't even begin to address the equating of occasional western nutjob with constant killing by Muslims, all day, every day. Is there a Christian religious civil war? No. Is there a western religion invested in Genocide and re-occupying, previously occupied terrority? I don't think so.

This post does nearly nothing beyond the word "reprehensible" to condemn Muslim killing. In fact it defends the mass buying of potential bomb triggers. I guess if anyone else wants to take flying lessons to nowhere, he can count on Glenn if he runs into trouble. I hope Glenn likes being labeled a terrorist sympathizer, because this piece is a rationalization of modern day violence.

Coyness is not becoming

And what course of action do we recommend in order to counter this particular threat? -- Paul Dirks

Well PD, what do YOU think is the proper approach to a religion that

* Subjugates women

* Denounces gays

* encourages killing non-believers

* Desires genocide.

I'd suggest you treat them like Christians. Ridicule and suppression in the public arena.

re; Anonymous

When both sides are willing to torture and kill each other over an invisible man in the sky and a bunch of slogans,

Have you conveniently forgotten that atheists killed more people than religionists by a substantial multiple, last century? Stalin and Mao alone evened the score for a large portion of human history. So much for "reason".

Help! Save me from opposing opinions!

But, at the same time, it would be nice for us to advance the discussion undaunted by their provocations.

Then the place for you is FDL, where you will be protected from all those nasty people that have different ideas. There they will nurture your prejudices, give you room to express your desire for "solidarity", and make sure you are unmolested by the real world. Kinda like Romper Room.

Did anyone notice....

That the surveyed were screened, not random. Or, that 60% of the surveyed believe the 9/11 guys were NOT Arab? Add that to the large number of people that think GWB knew about 9/11 before it happened and it's easy to make a case for using statistics as propaganda rather than real indicators. It's either that or a large number of people surveyed are beyond reason.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

LOL. Have you been waiting for an opportune time to throw this into the mix? Perhaps you should explain to the rest of us why you have a problem with their rationale. It is after all, the same rationale the Governor(Dem) used to justify blocking relief agencies from the Superdome.

Personally, I think you're miffed because I was talking about how the MSM was clueless about the real situation in NO, yet the Times Picayune got Pulitzers even after it's failures were exposed. Do you have a relative working there or something? And what's with the failure of self-discipline that you couldn't wait for a more relevant topic for a smear job? Better trolls please.

re: Denning's bravery

I don't see the gorilla in the room. I think the gorilla is a figment of your imagination. I know why you see it and I don't. It's because you are afraid and I'm not.

Translation: I'm not worried because I think other people are more likely to get hurt than I am.

I'm really not afraid of terrorists or their sympathizers. Wisdom can easily defeat terrorism (not bombs).

Translation: So what if Hamas shoots rockets at Israel, I'm a special guy. You know, open to wisdom.

What I am afraid of is the root causes of terrorism and pouring gasoline on this fire. If there were an 800 pound gorilla in the room, this would be it. Alienating whole groups of people, cornering them, mistrusting them, feeding their fears and mistrusts, is akin to nudging them over to the other side. And for what?

Translation: This violence is justified, but if we're real quiet and real nice and real accomodating, they won't hurt too many of you guys.

Which bring us to the question you've been asked repeatedly: what would you do about muslims in America? What should our government do with them?-- Denning

Translation: It's wiser for me to shoot down your ideas, because it masks the fact I have no ideas of my own.

My own suggestion is to ask again what the MSM would do if it were tipped to an organization that was murderous, homophobic, and anti-feminism? Is there some reason Christians can be confronted but not Muslims? Dhimmitude anyone? Tsk.
