Original article: I Like to Watch

Battlestar Galactica

best show to watch rapidly on DVD. My friend got me hooked on it in the 3rd season so I had to go and buy the mini-series and the 1st and 2nd seasons. Watched them all over a period of 2 days when I had the flu.

I have to agree with your take on Lucky Louie. I'm not sure if we're supposed to surmise that it's really cool to say fuck, i.e. saying fuck with the underlying sense that your expected reaction is "Wow! She just said fuck!" or if the writer's just think that all low-income people speak in this manner.

But I love the realism of the show - one of the reasons that I have always avoided having children is my apprehension that they would turn out to be "fucking assholes." It is comforting to know that this is not an unusual fear.

The Handmaiden's Tale

For those of you familiar with the book by Margatet Atwood, mark my words, it CAN happen. I agree that the anti-choice position has little to do with really caring for children and more to do with controlling women. My position is also that my right to my bodily integrity trumps the right of a fetus. I was pleased to see one of the ealier responders put it so bluntly.

Oh, and to The South Sucks - been there done that. I spent 8 long months of exile in Richmond, VA recently and, believe me, VA counts as being part of "the South" and every stereotype you can think of. I had to get out of there before one more person asked me what church I went to and coldly turned away when I responded that I did not attend church. Southern "hospitality" is a myth that explodes in the face of the reality.

Scary Stuff

I hate that I think this way and I really don't want to become one of the tin-foil-hat-wearing crowd who are always on the look-out for black helicopters but . . . .this stuff scares the shit out of me. I can't stop thinking about Germany. If Bush sells his doctrine of unfettered powers in the guise of nat'l security, where will it stop? What if he decides a military coup is in the best interests of nat'l security? It has happened before in other countries. Why is he trying to federalize the Reserve and the National Guard? I truly believe that in 2008 America will vomit up BushCo and I am working hard and sending funds I don't have to ensure that happens but, but . . . in the back of mind is always the thought of "will I have the courage of my convictions if it comes to a test?" Again, I think of Germany. If I had lived in Germany during the Reich would I have had the courage to resist? I have always wondered when my generation would be tested. I came of age in the mid-70's - slightly too young for Vietnam although my brother had to register but the war ended soon after that. But we still had close access to the ideals of the 60's through music and literature. However, we have lived a pretty good life. But I think our time might be coming - that is the thought that terrifies me.

Sorry for being such an hysterical alarmist but I feel better for finally getting that out. Get in shape people - we may all need to be at our very best very soon. Oh . . .one more thing . . . if this is going into my file please know that I am a pacifist. God (in whatever form you believe she takes) bless America!

Selective Memory

This is a constant issue with Republicans . . . .selective memory. Joe says he's not saying anything different now than what he said in 1994,1995,1996,1997,1998,1999, etc. Are we to imagine that he was mute from 2000 to 2004? Does he take no responsibility for propping up this administration? Not only didn't Shrub ask tough questions, the media (and Joe is one of them) didn't ask ANY questions! People like Joe owe this country one huge mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. They helped run this country into the ground. The don't get to stand around now and wait for someone else to dig it out of the hole. Grab a shovel Joe and get your hands dirty!

Whew!

I thought it must just be me. I thought it must be a sign that I was now officially old. Kind of like the first time you hear yourself telling someone to "turn that music down."

For Joe re: Remember

Where in the "Quote of the Day" or in any of these comments do you see ANYONE saying "Bush is the bad guy and Saddam is the good guy?" That's right, nimrod - NOWHERE!! Surprise! What a jerk - If you don't have something to add - stay over at Red State. Calling Bush on his bullshit is NOT saying Saddam is the good guy - no one is falling for your straw men anymore.

Where's "joe" on this?

I can't wait to hear his spin. While we're waiting for that, take some time to go this link and read Harry Reid's ammendment calling for a change in direction in Iraq and the replacement of Rumsfeld. It's good stuff and isn't getting much coverage in the MSM.

An Interesting Follow-Up

Might be to find someone who has left the Mars Hill Church. The church says they don't prevent people from leaving and that everyone involved is there by choice. Let's hear from someone who left. The church has been around long enough that the law of averages must come into play. There has to be someone - let's hear their experience.
