It's Christmas Whether You're Secular or Religious

The holiday is "Christmas" so why the hesitation to call it what it is? I'm no religious right zealot but I do say "Merry Christmas" rather than "Happy Holidays" when offering the greeting. What is the offense? Maybe there are non-Christians among us who do not celebrate Christmas. Fine. I'm not trying to convert anyone but are they so fragile in their own beliefs that they cannot cope with the overt use of the word "Christmas".

There are some living in the USA who are not legal citizens. Should we stop saying "Happy 4th" or "Happy Independence Day" and replace it with "Happy Long Weekend" or "Happy Day Off". Has "inclusiveness" itself become doctrinal.

Whether you celebrate it in a religious context or a secular one OR NOT AT ALL...call it by it's name..."Christmas".

Yes, the right-wing can be paranoid on this issue but let's be honest...the left can be overly neurotic.

Maybe Kathy Needs an Upgrade

One has to wonder if Kathy Griffin is moving up the star ladder. Is she really only a D-lister? Seems like she's moving up to the C-list now. Her career is coming along, and who knows, maybe she'll really make it. I can see her easily hosting a talk show and being a blast in the Joan Rivers mold. When Conan O'Brien moves to the Tonight Show, she should definitely be considered for the 12:30 am slot.

This is all speculation but maybe Kathy feels that if she's moving up professionally she needs to marry up romantically.

Is this not all too common among male stars? When they were nobodies they hooked up with nobodies. Who else would pay attention to them. Then they get a little famous and suddenly they need to upgrade to a more appealing partner.

Another thought is that "bad-boy"-aholics never ever get over the addiction. The addiction is really to excitement. For all of Matt's great qualities, he seems a bit dull. Kathy appears to be an energy glutton...manic to the extreme. Maybe she needs someone with more voltage...someone who can challenge her in a way that super nice Matt can't or won't.

Does Kathy realize that not many men would put up with her quirks the way Matt has. I remember how stunned I was when they showed her driving the car and Matt sitting in the passenger seat. Kathy apparently needs to be so in control at all times that she always insists on driving. How many men would put up with that...0.0001%...and Matt is one of them.

Kathy, what are you doing?

BBC "the best"

Another contented Canadian here who is so very fortunate to able to get the BBC coverage through the local sports channels. What a joy?

The BBC has one announcer who doesn't fill every micro-second with pointless blather. No color man hopped up on speed screaming about what's obviously going on.

During one of the games this past weekend, the BBC feed disconnected for a while and the Canadian cable provider went directly to ESPN. I can't tell you how jarring it was. Thought I'd need a Tylenol to calm my nerves. I love Americans but must you all be so darn hyper?!

And what a great compact sport, soccer is!!...two 45-minute halves, add a couple of minutes of stoppage time, a 15-minute halftime...that's it. An entire game wrapped up in just under two hours.

Compare that to baseball and football, which regularly go on for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, at least.

Reich and Basketball

Wow, what a thing for the hostette to say that maybe the reason that Obama didn't pick Robert Reich for his administration is because he doesn't like the way he (Reich) plays basketball.

At 4 ft 10, Reich is not likely to be shooting hoops with anyone. Reich's height disadvantage is due to a genetic condition.
