  • We don't need no stinking accountability!

[Read the article: Sloppy on spying?]

Sent this to the OpinionJournal. Let's see if they have the stones to post it:

Judge Taylor can write her opinion and pose for the cameras--and no one can hold her accountable for any Americans who might die as a result.

Wow. It takes a special breed of cowardice to write this and not sign your name to the article.

BTW, who was held accountable in the Bush Administration's when, due to gross negligence and/or incompetance, 3000 Americans died on September 11, 2001? Really, your scorn is entirely misplaced.

  • David Corcoran

    David Corcoran + 20 years = George W Bush

  • That's just really disappointing

Fans of Matheson's stark, unsettling and eerily beautiful book may be outraged by this version [...] The details of Matheson's story [...] have been either submerged, changed beyond recognition or deleted entirely.

Grrr. I'm one of those fans. I was really hoping for a faithful adaptation. The original story is certainly filmable. And for Romero's sake, Hollywood, give the zombies a rest. The original vampire angle would have been much more interesting.

  • People neither understand nor want freedom

[Read the article: Huckabee digs a little deeper]

"Well, I don't think that's a radical view to say we're going to affirm marriage."

    OK, just stop right there.

It most certainly is a radical proposition for the government to "affirm" marriage. The only involvement the government should have in how I live my personal life is to provide a venue for the enforcement of contracts. And, yes, that does open the door to the possibility of multiple-person "marriage" contracts. (Sorry, rw.) There is simply nothing in the Constitution that even suggests that the government has or should have this power. The very thought of it is madness.

The religious baggage tied to the institution of marriage and the cultural hegemony represented by the Baptist minister from the depths of the know-nothing heartland are enough to sour me on the whole idea. But let's not lose sight of the basic fact that the whole endeavor is anathema to the concept of freedom.

And America is all about freedom, right?

  • Horde: a moving pack or swarm of animals

[Read the article: A week of petty though typical attacks on Obama produced nothing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are obviously hordes of people, regardless of ideology, yearning for an end to the Limbaugh/Drudge/ Chris-Matthews/Karl-Rove/Time Magazine petty, vapid dirt-mongering that infects and shapes our politics.

Do you really believe that? Hordes? I think we get the media (and the government) we deserve.

Glenn, there are 3 kinds of people in the world (contrary to all those lame jokes you've been told): People who live to be told how to live; people who live to tell others how to live; and people who just want to be left the hell alone to live in peace. Unfortunately, only the first group occurs in sufficient numbers to form hordes. Don't expect any "yearning" from them. That would require a proactive, inquisitive mindset.

  • Hurts so good

[Read the article: Antiwar site lets you spend $3 trillion your way]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Greenwald site aims to illustrate the opportunity cost of the war -- other things we might have done with the money.

We never had the money. Neither did the federal government. Our children and our children's children will be paying off the war debt. The only thing we "might have done" is not choose not to fight an unecessary war.

Greenwald's site strikes me as the perfect opportunity for liberals to assuage their guilt over meekly siting on the sidelines for the past 7 years while the "conservative" Bushies destroyed, well, everything.

  • Forest vs. Trees

Someone please explain to me why the US government gives any money at all to any religious organizations whatsoever.
