Get ready for another statement

Get ready for another statement from Hoffman when he starts wondering how ACORN could have fixed all those absentee ballots.

Original article: Praying for Obama's death

Prayer? More like a curse

May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

Sounds more like a curse than a prayer. I wish Drake would at least have the intellectual honesty to admit he's cursing the President, not praying.

You left out The Cardigans

I saw the first Lilith Fair in 1997. The acts were Fiona Apple, Paula Cole, Tracy Bonham, The Cardigans, and Sarah McLaughlin. The first three acts were boring. Most people stopped paying attention by the time Tracy Bonham was on stage.

Then The Cardigans played. They rocked, and everyone got up and started dancing and enjoying the show. They only played for 45 minutes, but it was a fun 45 minutes.

thoughtless and hurtful

DeMint himself has weighed in on the letter sent by Ulmer and Merwin, saying in a statement that "the comments were thoughtless and hurtful."

Was he upset about the use of a Jewish stereotype, or about being compared to a Jew?

Call them the St. Lou Ass-Rams. That'll scare Limbaugh away.

Correction

Let's be clear on something: Roman Polanski did not seduce a 13-year-old girl. Roman Polanski raped a 13-year-old girl. She said "no" to him repeatedly. That's not seduction. That's rape.

@Ipanema: So it's Rio 2016?!

Thanks for the news. This is the first I'd heard that a selection had been made.

I'm a native midwesterner, so I was hoping the Olympics would be in Chicago. But it is an injustice that the games have never been held in South America. It's about time the IOC selected a South American city.

Matt Drudge, Michelle Malkin, Glenn Beck

They must really hate America. They should move to Spain if they love it so much more than America.

In fact, don't you think Glenn Beck looks like of ... Spanish?

Would anyone care if he wasn't a famous director?

biteme2: I hate to sound like an ass... But be honest, would you really care if the perp wasn't a famous director?

I would care. I think Kate Harding would to. If he were not a famous director, however, we wouldn't be hearing from a lot of apologists explaining that he's suffered enough, or that the girl was a Lolita with a conniving stage mother, etc.

It's worth writing a column that explains exactly what he did, not because he is a famous director but because too many people are excusing it. It's worth writing a column like this every time someone excuses a famous singer from beating up his girlfriend or peeing on a teenage girl. Or someone writes about how a famous athlete is a victim because he was accused of rape. Or someone excuses a politician of cheating on his wife because he represents their party.

Do liberals dislike America?

We see this a lot from Conservatives. They like to say liberals dislike America.

Not true. Liberals dislike conservative policies, not America. The problem is that too many conservatives don't know the difference.

My opinion

In my opinion, anyone who says something that sounds as awkward as "opposite marriage" should not be Miss America.

With Perez Hilton as a judge, I find it hard to believe that her response did not influence the vote. I also find it hard to believe that the only reason she didn't win was because of her opinion. She said "opposite marriage" and it made her sound stupid.

Her claims that she should have won exemplify the the right's notions of entitlement.

Why the student had $100 is irrelevant.

It doesn't matter why this student had $100 on her. She should be able to carry any amount of money without having it lost or stolen.

I have to wonder why they thought a strip search would reveal cash

If I stole money from someone, I'd put it in my wallet. I'd think any teenage girl who stole cash would put it in her purse.

Even if they found money in these girl's purses or underwear, how would they know if it was the stolen money anyway?

This whole thing seems very Draconian.

Health care accounts for one-sixth of our economy?!!?!

That is a staggering figure. As "Ransom" said in the first post, the one-sixth figure is part of the problem. That's far too much money changing hands on health care.

If that figure is true, it's too much. This is Sarah Palin speaking, however, so I'll take the information with a grain of salt. I have no idea if this is correct, a common misinterpretation of another statistic, or a number pulled out of thin air to support her point.

It helps not to stare at the naked people in the locker room.

I try not to, as I would be uncomfortable with someone staring at my non-ideal body.

"inability to distinguish between advice and force"

Right-wing authoritarians know nothing but force. Ergo, they cannot distinguish anything from force.

Seriously Ted, just retire

You want a smooth transition, Senator Kennedy? Announce that you will retire in January 2010. This allows Massachusetts to schedule a special election for your seat on Election Day 2009. That's a lot easier than scheduling a special election day, or amending the law for your convenience.

If he did retire and Massachusetts had a new senator in January 2010. It would be hilarious if Ted Kennedy suddenly recovered. Then he'd go to the Governor and ask "Can I have my seat back? I'm feeling much better now."

How is this a fair trial, Justice Scalia?

"This Court has never held that the Constitution forbids the execution of a convicted defendant who has had a full and fair trial ..."

That's true, Justice Scalia. Then the issue is whether or not he had a fair trial when several of the witnesses later recanted their testimony. Did they lie? Were they pressured to lie by threats from the police or local lynch mobs?

I look forward to the day when Scalia retires from the court and spends most of his time duck hunting with Dick Cheney.
