what a tale
[Read the article: Suing George W. Bush: A bizarre and troubling tale]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There's a reason that - in some circles - these bozos are known as Can't Investigate Anything and Folls & Buffoons, Inc.
The "state secrets" privilege was originally based on a lie - 50 years later we discover the government was hiding "evidence" that proved the truth of the lawsuit. As history demonstrates, they've been lying about everything else ever since.

go for it!
[Read the article: Why progressives should keep organizing on MyBarackObama.com ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mike: I hope you stick to your guns and keep that site.
As someone who is working for the campaign, I stopped working for three days after his announcement on FISA. I came back on the realization that the only "math" that makes sense right now is: Obama in the White House and 60 Democrats in the Senate. It is the only way we can get anything we need.
That said, the only way we will get it is to constantly remind the sellouts that we're there, and that they need us. An independent progressive movement to keep forcing Obama to live up to his rhetoric is crucial. Everyone remembers JFK, but I am old enough to remember him first-hand, and I can tell you that he was never anything more than a standard-issue politician with a gift for Irish gab. He had soaring rhetoric, like Obama, but had he been left to his own devices, he'd have never accomplished much (which will be what happens with Obama if he's left alone or continues to be the object of worship of the Cult of O). JFK had absolutely no desire to be involved in the civil rights movement in 1961-62 - he wanted to "save that for the second term" - and it was only when people held him to his words that he came around. We will have to do the same with Obama.
You say, "The main one is to try to reverse the near-decade-long Republican assault on American values." Gotta tell you Mike, you must be pretty young. The "the far right assault on American values" goes back about 80 years. The current President's grandfather was part of a planned fascist coup d'etat against Franklin Roosevelt in 1933-34. The modern
American fascist movement dates to around 1958, and was brought to power by Richard Nixon in 1968 - 40 years ago. These people have been at it a looooooooonnnnnng time, and progressives let them do it because we didn't take them seriously.
We've got a helluva lot of catch-up to do, and your idea of continuing to remind Barack Obama of the truth of the old saying attributed to a French Socialist politician 100-odd years ago (whose name escapes me at the moment) is good: "There go my followers, and I must run after them, for I am their leader."
Keep up the good work.

Just the facts...
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]John "Forrestfire" McCain (who killed 137 of his fellow sailors as the result of a joke that backfired - literally) needs to look at the facts before he whistles pas the graveyard that is the Pearce campaign.
Tom Udall currently leads far right halfwit Pearce 2 to 1 in the rade for Senate. Pearce will only ever get to the Senate in an alternate universe. Probably the same one where there will be a President McCain.

poor widdle righties
[Read the article: Right calls foul on rejection of McCain's Op-Ed]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Little Green Snotballs - the place where people too stupid to pass the IQ test at Free Republic go to post. Two minutes at that place is sufficient time to realize that computers really are so user-friendly nowadays that bipeds lacking frontal lobes and opposable thumbs can use them.

Obamanomics
[Read the article: Obamanomics to the rescue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nice to see another otherwise-unemployable prove that the Peter Principle does indeed work. That this collection of toilet paper substitute got published proves what bad shape the print media are in.
Come on, "animal rights" is a threat to prosperity? Only if you're Chinese - they're willing to eat anything that moves.

Rush the moron
[Read the article: Rush Limbaugh: "Why can't we be more like China?"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So Limpdick is worried, huh? He should worry about stashing his lifetime supply of Oxycontin and Viagra in Santo Domingo so he can enjoy all his 10-year old sex partners when his "show" goes down the tubes after we bring back the Fairness Doctrine and all the rightie blowhards go off the air.

Hard hard hard Xtian right
[Read the article: Who is Sarah Palin?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]According to people I know in Alaska,Palin is hard hard hard Xtian Right theocrat. Her choice is not some "revolutionary act" by John McCain, but rather an act of desperation to shore up his sagging support among the believiers in Theocracy.
When the Republican are defeated this time, it's going to be a complete rejection of 45 years of "movement conservatism," i.e., our domestic fascist conspiracy.

The Wasilla Hillbillies
[Read the article: He shoots, he scores]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So, America really wants a gaggle of trailer park trash as "Second Family"????

Chris Matthews
[Read the article: GOP convention adjourns for the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Geez, just when Matthews had me thinking he was the least-bad of the cable "snooze" morons with his commentary on the Democratic convention, he comes back and proves himself to be the drooler he is and always will be.
This guy was ever a Democrat? Anyone on the planet thinks he should quit MSNBC and return to electoral politics??
Tweety is once again the picture you find in the dictionary when you look up "otherwise-unemployable."
