Original article: The culture war: It's back!

tree hugger

Interesting story. Bill Moyers did a very scary show this week about hate speech and talk radio. The culture war is there all the time apparently, only liberals don't listen to Rush or Glenn or Bill. I don't think republicans could garner the suppor that they do without demonizing and dehumanizing progressives and liberals.

And for the people who think they agree with the conservatives, let me enlighten you. Those conservatives are no more against abortion or gays or for guns than I am. They are power hungry and will say anything to get power and it works. Karl Rove admitted that he did not believe in God and that he had no particular religious ideals when he left the White House.

Original article: My husband, the invalid

care taking

is just so complex and difficult. I loved how vividly you told this story, and am of course, sorry for your troubles. What comforted me though was your husband's accepting attitude of his condition. When I think of dementia or any kind of brain injury, I think of the terror that must come with it of not understanding one moment to the next. If there's any reason to count your blessings it's that his torments are fleeting. You should probably get some kind of help, but that's your decision. I kind of hate to say I enjoyed this piece, but I really did. Life goes on, you don't think it will but it does.

And ideefixed, there's enough ugliness in the world, must you constantly try to pile it on?

good article

But I feel the Obama camp or he himself should address hate speech and talk radio and all of the horrid things that are being said about him, not to refute them. He has done that already but to ask the questions about why they so persistently and vehemently spread these lies about him, what have they to gain by demonizing not just him but all people on the left? Because they gain politically and they gain financially, and then the American public loses consistently. It's propaganda and it is so rampant that it just can't continue to be ignored.

Original article: Britney Spears, feminist?

can we just

be done with Britney? She would be happier, I would be happier. Can she just go, she and her silly family, just please stop making all of this public noise. I don't listen to the radio either but I heard her first album years ago. It's not like we'd be losing any kind of huge talent. Will it ever be over, please god, they're like the bush administration.

delicious column

Saying so succinctly what I have felt for ages. Reading it was sheer heaven. Thank you Glenn, I sent it to my right wingnut pals. It's just so deeply satisfying. Pleasure overload.

Original article: Nobody's dummy

camille

should just pen a love letter in her curlicue language to SP, and see if the latter can understand word one. Couldn't finish this, too ridiculous, enough to make one sick.

this is all well and good

but have you been reading Naomi Wolfe's columns lately? Glenn, you wrote something about forces being deployed within the US, didn't you? It's very scary.

Original article: "Changeling"

the real story

of the wineville chicken coop murders is really pretty interesting. It sounds like they took the most outrageous, curvalinear true story and made it duller than dishwater. I would like to see what Charlie Kaufman could do with a story like this.

so the LW follows Cary's advice

and after caring for her newborn, running her business and basically managing her life, she has to court two teenage boys who do not really like her or care to be around her and have made this abundantly clear by constantly alluding to how much money will be left to them after their beloved father (whom they cannot get enough of) dies and then they blame the LW. What a complete and utter waste of time. Giving and giving to people, young or old, who refuse to take responsibility for the hurt they cause is a pointless endeavor. I understand the LW wanting to keep her husband happy by being able to get along with these boys, but obviously if it were just a matter of being nice to these boys, there would never have been the need to write this letter. She may do everything Cary instructs without any improvement in the relationship (buy them things? come on). LW, avoid them and tell your husband why, then get on with your life. These boys are obviously very capable of looking after themselves.

LW be prepared

for lots of people being angry with you for conducting your life in a way that makes you happy. Don't listen to them. If you can make tough decisions and accept the consequences or rewards of your actions, that's just being an adult. It's certainly nothing to feel guilty about. Some people are unable to make their own decisions and resent those who do.

Original article: "The woman's not stupid"

Palin was so proudly and enthusiastically stupid

and hateful that it's hard to forgive. Everything I've heard about her in Alaska shows her to also be corrupt. That being said, McCain could not have made a bigger fool of himself with the financial debacle, suspending his campaign, wandering around the debate hall, accusing Obama of calling Palin a pig and every other misstep you can think of. No one really wants to rehash that in the media because he is so pathetic. But he is as bad or worse than Palin because he should have known better. In that way I do think the criticism of Palin is somewhat sexist. She is young, pretty, has a mind of her own apparently and is a very easy target. She's still dangerous like Bush was dangerous.
