Original article: Watching Republicans grieve

Some historical perspective

There were many Germans who grieved the fall of the 3rd Reich too, there were Philippines who grieved the fall of Marcos and Iraqis who grieved the fall of Saddam. The fact that dittohead nation grieve its election lose is of no consequence. As far as their claim that they're not represented in the media-nonsense. Obama was so much smarter, eloquent and exciting than McCain, who was often incoherent, angry, tired and plain senile and the media was naturally drawn to the new and exciting phenomenon, but once Pailin entered the scene, it was all Pailin, all the time. It wasn't the media's fault that she made a fool of herself through her grotesque ignorance of the world. McCain's voters chose to be Rush Limbaugh, Hannity mindless idiots, and they were depicted in the media like clueless hicks because too many of them are just that.

One of her interviewees said it all

"I'm a redneck and proud of it, I'm not ready for a black man to be president and I'm not ashamed to admit it". Nothing describes the average Republican voter any better. We could also add tribalism, profound ignorance of world affairs, a shocking lack of worldliness and a psychotic refusal to change opinions when faced with facts. There's no reason for any thinking person to sympathies with their fear and anger. We know the roots for their grief and by trying to feel sorry for them, as Pelosi clearly does, we legitimize the republican voter POV: that they should be in power permanently.

The new Paglia

I think that Alexandra Pelosi is the new Camille Paglia. A woman who claims to be a Democrat but who proclaims that poor conservatives are trashed by the one-sided media which isn't allowing them to show us how decent and normal they really are. It's as if the the 8 years in which the MSM acted as a Bush/Cheney enabler never happened as far as Pelosi is concerned. Like Paglia, Alexandra has practically nothing positive to say about those elitist condescending liberals, but she's bursting with sympathy for the poor misunderstood dittoheads. Some liberals feel an uncontrolled sense of guilt and shame when they win an election and go out of their way to sympathies with the defeated right wing, not realizing that such sentiments would never be reciprocated and that the conservatives will always despise and delegitimize them and their views.

Living in the Bay area

where Alexandra Pelosi was born and raised, I'm fortunate not to run into many Republicans. Unfortunately, there are a few in my gym, and being Bay area residents they are well educated, well spoken and would be terribly offended to be labeled as rednecks. Listening to their banter with fellow conservatives, what comes off very clearly obvious is how much they hate and resent "Liberals", how much they hate and resent Obama and how some of them even reject his legitimacy. It was only a matter of time before I heard one of them say what I believe so many on the Right hope and pray for:"hopefully Obama will get assassinated soon".

How true, terkoy

The great tragedy of our nation is that 58 million morons still voted Republican in the last elections. If we wish the avoid the catastrophe of the combined 16 years of Reagan/Bush from ever repeating itself, we must make sure that the GOP never returns to power.

A medical question

How many more heart attacks would it take for the worst asshole since Hitler to finally relieve humanity of his sordid existence?

Prop.13, or rather propaganda 13

from the moment that monumentally disastrous idea became law, the current catastrophe was inevitable. Along the way, our public school system, once the envy of the entire world degenerated into a tragic joke, our infrastructure has been allowed to crumbled and this entire once marvelous state became a shadow of what it once had been. It was an early warning of what Republican ideology can bring if allowed to be implemented in real life, as we have seen happen in the current economic disaster from which our nation may never recover.

Prop.13 is the greatest scandal in California's history

The problem of older people on fixed income being forced to pay highproperty taxes could've been handles through means tests, like 13 opponents suggested, which would've prevented the destruction of the public school system, the infrastructure and the pricing of so many young people out of the California real estate market. It put the burden of financing California on the young generations, an extremely cruel and selfish idea by old farts like Jarvis and his cronies.

Some real numbers for non-Californians who don't understand

A relative of mine (we all live in the SF Bay area) who is 80 years old and worth about 40M dollars, pays about $400 annually in property taxes on a house he bought in 1952, while I pay about $10,000 annually on a smaller house I bought in 1994. That's how cruel and insane prop.13 has been.

bernbart, regarding Tom campbell

Tom Campbell is a staunch follower of supply-side, lower taxes-no-matter=what,government is the problem, no government-is-good government. His solution to the economic collapse of the US and CA is to lower taxes, no stimulus bill. Why would you want to vote for such a person?

Original article: Whitewashing Roman Polanski

Some perspective

I have no doubt that if a black or hispanic man were charged with drugging and raping a 13 year old white girl they would've been allowed to go to Europe to direct a movie before their sentencing. Our system of justice treats rich and poor, celebrities and non-celebrities, white and non-whites evenly.
