Avigdor Lieberman

Lieberman, who will almost certainly be the most powerful man in a Netanyahu government has a colorful past. He had been a nightclub bouncer and an enforcer for a local criminal gang in Moldova before immigrating to Israel in 1979 at the age of 21. His appeal to the Russian immigrants is directly attributed to his unabashed racism against Arabs. The Russian immigrant community is highly racist and extremely chauvinistic. Lieberman has been a student and admirer of 19th and 20th century European fascism and is extremely effective in mining the racist and chauvinist votes in Israel, a very large gold mine for a character like him. Lieberman, who still speaks bad Hebrew and is quite ignorant of Middle East and Jewish history is the new Rabbi Meir Kahane without the yarmulke.

The difference

between Netanyahu/Lieberman and previous governments is that both Lieberman's party and the Likud are opposed to a 2 state solution and obviously will never allow a one state, one-vote-for-all solution. This leaves only various themes of one remaining option as far as the extreme Right is concerned:a massive forced population expulsion out of Israel, based on the pretense that a refusal of the Arab citizens of Israel to become Zionist, pledge allegiance to the Zionists state and serve in the IDF should preclude them from living in Israel:i.e. the Lieberman plan, or the Likud/Netanyahu vision:an apartheid state in which the Israeli Arabs will always be 2nd class citizens, the Palestinians in the occupied territories will be confined to bantuslans, their travel severely restricted by Israeli checkpoints, surrounded by Israeli settlements, their air space and water resources entirely controlled by israel, an occupation that will never end and Jewish settlements that will be expanded until there's no more Arab land to steal. The current political configuration in Israel precludes any other options and the racism and paranoia in the Jewish population have reached levels that make those horrific options possible.

@rockybalboa

Reagan Republican Conservatism, a.k.a. voodoo economics is the direct cause of the economic meltdown our nation is suffering. Your insane suggestion that we should apply that lunatic ideology to this economic and financial catastrophe makes about as much sense as suggesting that the best way to treat a 3rd dgree burn victim is to pore boiling water over his scorched skin. Start taking your medication crazy douche-bag.

About pork and the English language

When a bridge is rebuilt in California, the other states consider it pork and vice versa, that's why the term "fork" is silly demagoguery used by those who didn't get the money. And isn't it refreshing to have a President who speaks proper and eloquent English while demonstrating a coherent, intelligent thought process and who doesn't answer questions with ""bring'em on", "God tells me what to do" and "I was never wrong about anything".

@maotsetung

Even you must have the capacity to understand that Bush's spending couldn't have been more different than the recovery bill. Bush flushed trillions down the toilet by giving huge tax cuts to very wealthy people and corporations who didn't put it back in the US economy and often shielded that money in offshore accounts. He wasted horrendous resources on unnecessary wars that benefited mercenaries , defense contractors and other war profiteers but damaged the average person since he did it with borrowed money which created gigantic deficits and debt. The recovery bill will create millions of revenue generating jobs and jump-start the economy, or am I typing too fast for you?

Talk radio

Any person listening to talk radio, Right or Left wing without being forced to do it by a gun pointing to his/her head is by definition an asshole. Since Paglia seems to spend much of her time listening to talk radio, I rest my case.

Bipartisanship according to Republicans

means that any legislation has to be based on their ideas and ideology. Arlen Specter articulated the GOP mindset perfectly when he said he would've much preferred the recovery bill was limited to 450 billion dollars in tax cuts, but in politics "you don't always get what you want". What he didn't say was that representing a Blue north eastern state, a NO vote would've meant political suicide for him.

Very puzzling

Why would Obama appoint any Republican to an important post? These people are responsible for the economic collapse and for illegal and criminal wars, gross violations of human rights, disregarding international law and for war crimes that have shamed our country and made it despised around the world. Be it Gates at Defense or anybody else, not even one should be part of the Obama administration.

A naive question

Should we have used the arguments against investigating and prosecuting Bush, Cheney and other members of their regime on Milosevic, Karadic, Charles Taylor, Hermann Goering?

A celebrity addict with a womb

It seems that this deeply disturbed woman is infatuated with celebrity, and has found the "best" way to become one. It's outrageous that her parents, with whom she lives and who seem to support her, never found a way to intervene and prevent her from doing her crazy shtick. This insane woman should not receive any public assistance, with the exception of voluntary donations, and should undergo a thorough psychiatric evaluation to determine if she should be allowed to keep her children.

Amazing reality

The more comedians and others lampoon the Republicans as cruel, hubristic, grotesque, cartoonish, out of touch and incredibly stupid, the more amazing it is that in reality, the Republicans are far worse than they're depicted in the most exaggerated and far out satire.
