lost
[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i think a lot of people are assuming that the future glimpsed in the finale of the third season of lost represents "the end." i think it represents a "middle ground." this is what i predict will happen in the third season....
the "flash forward world" will be the present. scenes on the island will be told in flash backs. in the flash backs we will learn that desmond told the lostaways that naomi has no connection to penny; that naomi and the freighters are "bad." some lostaways will accept this, locke in particulat, others will not, jack, kate etc. over the course of the season we will see struggled between the two groups and we will eventually see some of the lostaways leave the island. the "present day" will show the awful lives of those who returned to civilization. eventually those folks will agree with jack: they have to get back to the island. and they will. both groups of lostaways will be reunited and then we will learn wtf is going on on the island. no more flash backs. no more flash forwards. just one story.
i think this structure will be loads of fun... it'll be cool to watch the two time lines converge.

little fella?
[Read the article: Marginalized]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i kinda sorta hope the "little fella" comment was referring to gonzalez' figurative stature... the stereotype of people of Mexican and Central American heritage being short coupled with that comment makes me uncomfortable. also, the larger issue of making a short joke's kinda uncool. you folks are better than that.
-
stand by what i say...
[Read the article: Marginalized]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]short jokes are cheap shots... not worthy of this site... and when used to describe someone of mexican descent, inappropriate.
i'll never be accused of not having a sense of humor... i worked at comedy central for 8 years for heaven's sake. i appreciate good humor as much as the next person.
but despite my name (which btw is out there for all to see... i hate it when people hide behind goofy screen names) i am hispanic... and i DO take offense at the connection between short and mexican.
and to top it off, i do not even believe the "little fella" comment even has a conscious connection between "gonzalez" and "mexican" i doubt grieve meant it that way at all... but it's there. i take exception to the breakdown in editing. imho, it should have been caught.

ditch it!
[Read the article: Who are you, Anonymous?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]if one can't post under his or her own name, he or she shouldn't post.
i don't hind behind a mask when i have discussions with others in "real life;" i don't hide behind an anonymous handle when i post online.
i do understand there might be occasions where one might want their name withheld... and some consideration should be given there... but generally, everyone should be required post using their names.
i feel anonymous posting is cowardly.

joan, you are a roll these past few days!

compassion for closeted republicans who vote against the gay community?
[Read the article: "Jiminy God!": The Larry Craig story]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]eh. not so much.
i'm kinda relishing all this shoving of republicans out of the closet!
ps. i'm gay as a goose.

no.
[Read the article: Please stop whining, iPhone early adopters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i don't really consider myself an early adopter. i do consider myself an apple fan.
my phone died just at the time the iphone came out. i was already an att customer. i bought an iphone. i didn't HAVE to be the first one to have an iphone... and yes...
i DO feel ripped off.
you say wait six month? that doesn't really make sense.
should EVERYONE wait six months? or are you only recommending people who read your column wait six months?
or maybe people who live in the northeast?
or people under the age of 50? i mean WHO?
if we all wait six months, then where would apple be?
with a failed launch.
someone's gotta buy it when it comes out.
i knew the tech would improve... i also knew that the price would drop somewhat.
just not that soon ... and that much...
people who bought the phone early should not be penalized so much.

another problem with farhad's argument
[Read the article: Please stop whining, iPhone early adopters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]a price drop is NOT an improvement in the product!
they're selling the same phone! the $399 phone is not better than my $599 phone.
as i've read a number of places, this is just really bad marketing.
do i expect something? no. should apple do something? yes. a rebate would be nice. a store credit would be nice. apple has proven to me time and again they have terrific customer service.
as i said earlier i feel ripped off this time. i've already tried talking a friend out of buying an itouch, cuz quite frankly, as slow as edge is, finding accessible wifi sites has proven to be very difficult. and i live in new york city!!
one last comment: why is "tech" different? wouldn't you get po'd if you bought a car, a couch, a tv, a bike... any high priced item... and then saw that only 6 weeks later, the price had dropped 1/3? i think you would.

harry tuttle
[Read the article: Please stop whining, iPhone early adopters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]YEAH! what he said!

wow. you folks just don't get it!
[Read the article: Apple gives iPhone early adopters $100 in store credit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it's not that the price dropped! it's that the price dropped significantly and quickly for no reason other than to garner sales!
it did not drop because of a breakthrough in production.
it did not drop because it is a different device.
any of you would be angry about a product you bought that had a 33% lower price just 6 weeks later.
it was BAD marketing to do this.
only tech-o-philes subscribe to this early adopter stuff. normal people on the street do not. if the phone was only for techies, market it to techies, not the general public.
