    * If women don't want to have babies, they can use contraceptives. Why should Obama lose the election to protect every last abortion right? - GG

I wonder about people who have to diagnose every word that comes out of someone's mouth so that they can always feel aggrieved or slandered. And I wonder about people who feel the need to constantly deride and insult people who disagree with them. Really that was a sloppy, unfair comment.

    The Swamp

    by Frank James

Sen. Barack Obama clarified his position today on mental-health exceptions to late-term abortions, saying he supports such exceptions and that comments he made during a recent magazine interview shouldn't be interpreted as opposing them.

But in a press availabilty on his campaign plane today on the flight from Butte, Mont. to St. Louis, Obama clarified what he meant.

Here's a transcript of the interchange as provided by the campaign.

Reporter: You said that mental distress shouldn't be a reason for late-term abortion?

Obama: "My only point is this -- historically I have been a strong believer in a women's right to choose with her doctor, her pastor and her family. And it is ..I have consistently been saying that you have to have a health exception on many significant restrictions or bans on abortions including late-term abortions.

In the past there has been some fear on the part of people who, not only people who are anti-abortion, but people who may be in the middle, that that means that if a woman just doesn't feel good then that is an exception. That's never been the case.

I don't think that is how it has been interpreted. My only point is that in an area like partial-birth abortion having a mental, having a health exception can be defined rigorously. It can be defined through physical health, It can be defined by serious clinical mental-health diseases. It is not just a matter of feeling blue. I don't think that's how pro-choice folks have interpreted it. I don't think that's how the courts have interpreted it and I think that's important to emphasize and understand."

"Obama the Magic Negro" hahaha. Man, racism is funny. If this was on the front page of the American Spectator, everyone would have had a different opinion. Laugh if you want, this is not that big of deal, but don't call me whiny because I don't have a grin on my face. I bet some of the people posting here think Family Guy is a tour de force because they skewer everyone... as if that makes it better. Lets laugh at that person with cancer, lets laugh at that "cripple", lets laugh at Muslims and blacks hahaha. Context? Who needs it.

  • the people criticizing Obama's reaction are being ridiculous

He said no comment. His campaign put out a statement that said it was tastless and offensive. Many people agree. But those who thought the cover was good, would have Obama bent over laughing about his wife being portrayed as a angry black nationlist who hates whitey while he is a secret muslim who loves OBL - perhaps because he has heard his wife and himself talked about in similar tones by his political opponents, he may bristle at the suggestion coming from his "friends." His reaction was fine.

I don't want to blow this up more than it is, but I will say this: I have heard my friends and people who I can't stand use the n-word; it always sounds harsher coming out of a friend's mouth, no matter what the purpose. That doesn't make the friend a racist, but there are sore spots for a lot of people that you may not want to touch. Watching people define what should offend other people is kind of weird.
