  • Bravo Glenn

I haven't read any of the comments, thus far, but I think it was a perfect analytical response to Obama's speech. Obama's speech challenges the listener. It is so far removed from political talking points it is almost shocking that a politician gave the speech. It is a challenge. One I'm not sure America is ready to handle. But at the end of the day, win or lose, I am so thankful he is running. Because in the future, the near future, I can expect better from my candidates. We can all expect a higher level of discourse. And we don't need to feel ashamed for asking for it.

  • @ Joan Walsh - a serious question

You wrote: "It boiled down to wanting to avoid the Kerry flip-flop label, as well as believing that the first serious female candidate for commander in chief needed to look resolute, and couldn't afford to admit a mistake. (b)Whoever sold her on that idea must have been…a man. (Many people blame Mark Penn.) For all the sexism and gender stereotyping that's hurt Clinton's presidential bid, that may go down as the most damaging. If Clinton loses, a long list of bad campaign decisions will be analyzed and derided, but that one will be high on my list."

Do you really believe that the only reason Clinton is losing to Obama is because of sexism? Can you really say that Clinton has faced more sexism in this election than Obama has faced racism?

And finally, the decision to go to war was not a campaign decision. And the decision not to apologize for that decision, is her own. Is she running her campaign?

The parsing you do to support Hillary is amazing. But forgive me, I'm just an Obamatron. Seriously, you use to be better than this.

Thanks for responding. I did read the post, if you noticed, I quoted from it extensively. It started off with a title "Hillary Clinton's long strange journey on Iraq" that makes little sense because Hillary Clinton's position on Iraq really hasn't changed.

In the article on Clinton and Iraq, you manage to bring up Wright twice and remind of everyone you still have reservations about Obama. For the record, tts not just the oratory skills of Obama that are on display, most people like his logic, his reasoning, his insights, his words. Why you can't credit that is beyond me.

The post than goes on to hoping the candidate expresses an opinion that she has NEVER expressed. You hope that she would give a speech that the war vote was a mistake, HELLO! maybe she doesn't believe the vote was a mistake. While you parse whether or not Obama has sufficiently denounced and rejected his pastor, you don't hold Hillary Clinton accountable for her own actions. Its ridiculous. This feat of acrobatic journalism has a better place on the pages of Time or the Wall Street Journal.

You than end your post by attributing everything that has gone wrong in her campaign, including her decision to not admit her war vote was a mistake, to "men" and faceless campaign advisers. You know, the people she hired.

There is not one criticism of Hillary Clinton in the entire piece, that isn't lamely cited as someone else's fault or minimized and distorted.

And for you to call people Obamatron, and I can't help but think it has a lot to do with the bitterness directed at you because of your last posts, its shameless name-calling. I don't hate Hillary Clinton, I just don't want her to be president.

By the way, what are the defining characteristics of an Obamatron? Can you point out one for me (besides myself, obviously).

Finally, to again quote the article, you implied that I didn't read -

"I can think of no better way for Clinton to mark this somber fifth anniversary of war than with a courageous, anguished speech admitting her mistake and committing herself to getting us out of this mess."

That is not her position! That is not who she is.

Everything she wanted, happened. Bush made an aggressive pitch to the UN, they rejected him. You see, you weren't the only one who knew there were no threat from Iraq. That is complete media fairy tale. The entire world knew! Many Americans who protested against the war knew! And the UN inspectors who WE forced out of the country knew!

    Go get some perspective, please.

  • @ doc5467 - Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. Obama supported Lamont

[Read the article: "We Don't Know This Sen. Joe"]

Barack Obama - "Ned Lamont has waged an impressive grassroots campaign to give the people of Connecticut a choice in the November Senate election. He has a vision for his state and country, and his campaign has been about presenting that vision to Connecticut voters.

Ned Lamont and I share a commitment to bringing our troops home safely from Iraq, to achieving energy independence, to helping all our citizens realize the American dream, and to empowering the American people to reclaim their government. Ned Lamont’s campaign is about delivering on these goals in Washington.

The November 7th election is right around the corner. Please join me in supporting Ned Lamont with your hard work on-the-ground in these closing weeks of the campaign."
