Remember Reagan?

The Republicans sure do. In fact, if they could have his body exhumed they'd proudly put it on display at their convention. And what was HE before running for President? Governor of California and the former President of the Actors Union? Those credentials surely prepared him to occupy the most powerful position in the world.

But he WAS eloquent and inspirational, something our country obviously needed at that moment in our history. I didn't vote for him, but millions of Democrats did.

We're at that crossroad again, and anyone who thinks Obama is just an empty suit needs to not only consider the "Reagan Phenomenon," but also the fact that Obama is a sitting Senator, extremely smart and articulate, and has caused enough sensation with his candidacy to upset the person who was once the annointed Democratic nominee.

We've endured perhaps the most dangerous and embarrasing President in memory for eight years-I think it's time we showed the rest of the world that we get it now. And on the domestic front, we could all use some hope and inspiration.

Hypocracy

Why is it that McCain is immune from criticism when he accepts support from Pat Robertson, who claims that Hurricane Katrina was a punishment from God for abortion, homosexuality, and any other abomination he and God discuss personally, while Obama is held responsible for the views of his preacher? Typical American politics-the candidate said he denounced those statements, but I guess that's just not enough for the looney right wing bigots. Apparently all of the years I've spent sitting through Catholic Masses means I support pedophiles.

It's so pathetic-obviously racism will be an issue in this campaign, but I had no idea how deeply skin color meant to so many people. I'm not a zealot- I just want the best candidate to counter a "McPresidency." The American people should be ashamed of themselves if they use race as a factor in this election. Maybe the rest of the world is right-we are stupid.

Who Cares?

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Who cares, but the next five months are going to be downright painful if the media continues to disect every inconsequential moment of this campaign. The blogs, the print media, the cable news channels' talking heads spent the day dwelling on the "body language" of Obama and Clinton, or whether or not they purposefully color coordindated their outfits. Who gives a shit? I don't care if they like eachother, and neither should the rest of us. If Hillary supporters want to vote for McCain because they're angry she didn't win her annointed place as the Democratic nominee, then they're idiots. The minute by minute polling and scrutinizing is what sucks the life out of voters though. We need a quicker process-otherwise we forget the forest because we become too focused on the trees.

Great

Xanax is right.

What happened to intelligent discussion? Has Salon beome TMZ? Do idiot trolls now control the dialouge? It's really not that difficult-it never has been. If you're a millionare who enjoys the benefits of the Bush tax breaks, then vote for McCain. If you're a True Believer who thinks we're engaged in a religious war and are willing to continue to expend not only our economic future, but countless lives, on this endeavor, then vote for McCain. Otherwise quit squabbling about the tenor of the Democratic nomination campaign. Get over it and vote in YOUR best interest-and,as an aside, the best interest of your country.

I'm inspired and dissolutioned at the same time. This isn't Rocket Science-it's a simple choice-more of the same or a chance to possibly redeem ourselves internationally and domestically.

What the Bible REALLY says

When did this discussion jump from Colin Powell to Jesus? Oh yeah...when NancySue "Jesus Forgot To Teach me to Spell" 22 started spewing her whackjob views.

I'm pretty sure Jesus isn't registered to vote in the U.S. Neither is Satan, so don't get your mini brain in a twist over it NancySue...you clearly have more pressing, personal issues to deal with.

It's right there in the bible-Moe,Larry & Curley 22:17:"Thou shalt seek Psychiatric help when thou starts saying really stupid things about The Lord Jesus H. Christ on a public forum when everybody reading it thinks thou requirith an infusion of brain cells."

Finally

Hurray Obama. For decades I've been listening to people recite the stupid Reagan creed about the "Welfare Mothers" whose $20.00 a month in foodstamps were crippling our economy. Meanwhile, corporate CEO's, when faced with diminished profits, would go to the government with their fat hands extended, receive billions in bailouts, give themselves unimaginably excessive bonuses, and then lay off workers.

We have been so indoctrinated with this nonsense about those in real need being "lazy" that we have allowed children to go without basic necessities. But whenever I attempted to actually engage anyone in a serious discussion about this societal myth, their only evidence was anecdotal.

FINALLY corporate welfare has become a topic of discussion. Republicans like to use the scary word "Socialism" when it suits them. But when their wealthy croonies need government assistance, it's sound economic policy. And look at the great job they've done "trickling down" those handouts to cheap workers in Third World countries.

Obama's salary cap on CEO'S is more than symbolic-it's forcing us to redefine what our priorities are as a country. And if that means we need to moniter the excesses of our REAL "Welfare Mothers," then I'm all for it.
