Voting For A Woman
[Read the article: Women and Clinton: Damned if they vote, damned if they don't?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]One thing that has confused me a great deal is how so many of my female friends, many of whom have reservations and/or serious beefs with Clinton, lament that if Hillary doesn't get the nomination, that a woman will never be president...I for one am optimistic and derive comfort from the fact that one thing we, as a species, are very poor at predicting is the future.
All this being said, if I were a registered democrat, I'd vote for Obama in my state's primary. Should he win the nomination, I'll be voting for him in November. If, however, Clinton wins the nomination...it's still a no brainer, Hillary vs McCain, Hil's got my vote.
Also, I'd really like to see Lynn respond to Xrandadu Hutman's long post from earlier.

How to look younger?
[Read the article: Do not go gentle into that Eileen Fisher]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Exercise.
You'll also feel younger, or at least more energized. Not to mention the pecuniary benefits.

Just a thought
[Read the article: Exercise: It's good for kids' brains]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Aren't boys more likely be physically active during recess, while girls are off doing whatever it is that they did during recess?
An Eddie Izzard bit comes to mind....hopscotch.
Just thinking that the activity in PE for boys, on average, is prob only marginal, while for girls it could represent a more substantial increase in physical activity....
This being said, I was surprised to learn that schools were doing away with recess and PE. What's next, getting rid of red ink? Oops, my bad.

Wow
[Read the article: Dowd: Are (Hillary's) women necessary? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who decides which letters get stars? Some of them are truly pathetic.
Has broadsheet become a parody of itself? (This question, in my opinion, belongs on many recent threads)
Ms. Traister, you would be well served to aim your attacks at folks other than Ms. Dowd. For starters, it's best to comment on pieces that you've not only read, but also understood. Dowd is brilliant and hilarious and, unlike other pundits/writers/journalists, if you look at her work (not just one or a handful of articles in a vacuum) she's unapologetic and goes after the left, the right and the center when they happen to be worthy of derision. Attacking Maureen Dowd....this a fight you objectively can't win no matter how you decide to keep score (intellectually, lyrically, sense of humor, etc.) Unless, of course, you're in certain self-flagellating feminist circles.
All this being said, I'll admit that I'm not the most objective person when it comes to Maureen...but I have had sporadic beefs with some of her writing in the past. I believe that broadsheet would be best served by having its writers at least attempt to approach issues in a disinterested fashion...isn't feminism, on some level, about fighting bias? I have to ask, as the definition seems to change week to week and topic to topic.

@smp
[Read the article: Dowd: Are (Hillary's) women necessary? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Was asking about the red or editors' choice stars. Was curious if it was the same editor or group of editors reaching consensus? Clearly, the standards are arbitrary.....It used to be, I could click the editors' choice button and see solid posts without having to wade through the vitriol and garbage. Of late, the best posts are usually without a red star.
This next bit doesn't really belong on this thread, but I think it would be cool to let readers vote on posts too. And then, of course, sort/filter by ratings.

My Theory
[Read the article: Single? Hand over your briny vegetables!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you're a single woman and totally vexed as to why this is the case, the best move you can make is to stop asking other women for advice and turn to your trusted male friends....assuming you have them.
On the flip side, if you're a guy and similarly vexed, you should prob stop turning to your boys for advice and turn to trusted female friends....again, assuming you have them.
Of course, if you suffer from a dearth of friends of the other gender...
The rub, fwiw, is that if these conversations are dominated by candor, the confirmation biases will cease and you'll prob start to hear things about yourself that you don't want to.
Of course, it's so much easier to be an objective viewer of others than of yourself.....also, has anyone ever suggested that men and women are profoundly different creatures?

Reminds me of a south park episode
[Read the article: A new form of BYOB]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When Paris Hilton competes in the "Whore-Off."
As much as I hate responding and fueling this non-issue, it might be more cause for concern if the goal wasn't to become "Miss Bimbo." I want to believe, that most girls, of any age, get upset when others call them bimbos....When the "Miss Spectacular" or some variation thereof comes out where the goal is to release your sex tape, get divorced three times, each time marrying a wealthier man or woman, with a similar or identical framework as "Miss Bimbo," even then, it would only be incrementally more relevant to feminists.
On some level, isn't feminism about accountability, pro-action and a modicum of common sense? Or is it really about pointing the fingers at others? Offering criticism, not solutions? Parental responsibilities, education, do any of these things factor into the incidence of eating disorders in the U.S and elsewhere? Nope! It's the fault of video games, blogs run by anorexics, and glossy fashion magazines.
On the unintended consequences tip, do the women of broadsheet understand that by posting and thinking they're addressing these non-issues, that they're actually perpetuating the proliferation of that which pisses them off?
Misery loves company eh?
