I have been soooo wrong all along

"He's focused on the mission of the Department of Justice, which is to keep Americans safe, protect us from domestic terrorism threats, child predators"

All this time I thought the mission of the Justice Department was to ensure fair application of the law of the land, and ensuring, waddya call it...justice!

I'm glad to discover that in reality they are focused on protecting me from domestic terrorists and child predators, which are, after all, the things most likely to affect my day to day life!

The Conversation

Bush: Al, I'm getting sick and tired of having to read these guys on the, waddya call it, the internets, going on about what a bad president I am. I want you to round up all the folks over at that Salon.com and put 'em on trial for bad mouthin' a sittin' president!

Al: Mr. President, we can't do that. It's not a crime. We will have to have them kidnapped and secretly held outside of the U.S. legal system instead; nobody can stop us from doing that.

Bush: Yer doin' a heck of a job 'Fredo, a heck of a job. Heh. Heh. Heh.

Original article: Stalking Dr. House

It's Funny...

How differently people come at Hugh Laurie based on where they first found him. I've been a fan since Black Adder and had my adoration cemented through several seasons of "Jeeves and Wooster". Now I find I actually can't watch House because it creeps me out the hear the (very well done) flat American accent coming out of Bertie Wooster's mouth.

A sex symbol? Well, they do say that a sense of humour is the sexiest thing there is...

Hah, hah, hah!

"is tantamount to asking the Court and Mr. Libby to take the government's word on Ms. Wilson's status, based on secret evidence, without affording Mr. Libby an opportunity to rebut it. Such a request offends traditional notions of fairness and due process."

That line is the funniest thing I have read all month (and I am writing this on May 31st). Perhaps Scooter would like to testify to the unfairness of secret evidence in one of the Gitmo military tribunals?

I will give these scumbags one thing; they never fail to amaze me with the degree of their hypocrisy.

Original article: It's not just Khadr

Does It Matter?

I'm not clear on exactly why this ruling makes any difference, since the whole concept of an enemy combatant is extra-legal to begin with. Since there are no legal process can't the administration just declare them to be whatever they need to be in order to fall under the Military Tribunal rules? The whole problem with the system is that it's a "because the president said so" kind of deal; doesn't he just need to say that they are now alien unlawful combatants for them to become so?

Mr. Wolfowitz

It is painful for me to reflect on the fact that America would have been a better place if you had never been born.

Early 2007?

Don't you mean there are a lot of states doing their primaries voting in early 2008? Post-August doesn't seem like early 2007 to me. Am I missing something?

I'm not sure which is worse...

That he doesn't get that more attacks on American soil would be the very definition of failure, or taht he seems to think that we need a few more attacks to keep us in line.

I mean, of course republicans desire and benefit from attacks on american soil, but it really surprises me to hear one say it so clearly.

I'm not surprised...

Conservatives seem to be obsessed with detailed fantasies about what gay men do when they are together - generally WAY more detailed than the fantasies I might engage in when imagining what two women might do when together alone.

Sean Hannity, for example, can't seem to go more than a few pages in "Deliver Us From Evil" without engaging in a little daydreaming about what those dirty homos must do to each other.

It's a cliche, but it it's true; the people who speak out most loudly against homosexuality are typically also people that spend all their time thinking about it. It follows, pretty obviously, that the reason they want to get rid of homosexuals is to remove what is, for them, an overwhelming source of temptation.

What I Want To Know...

Is how much funding was required for the development and deployment of the Super-Bong that preceded this idea?

Missing White Girls

Missing white girls absolutely deserve news coverage - as do missing anyone-elses - on the local news. A missing person, whatever their color or sex, is not national news worthy of coverage on the 24 hour news networks, unless there is some compelling evidence that the crime has NATIONAL implications, I don't know, maybe a really firm lead that indicates the victim is currently being driven across state lines in an avocado green Lexus.

This sort of crap cuts into our coverage of multimillionaire airheads being oppressed by the system, which is a REAL crime. (She found God after less than a week in jail? REALLY?).

Yes, yes...

And I suppose that Foreigner was really as great as the Rolling Stones.

Journey goes down in the hall of fames as one of the worst bands ever just for their video games (the simple fact taht someone thought it was a good idea...), don't even get me started on their music...

Imagine...

If Lost ended like this there would be a nationwide wave of suicides.

Followed by a nationwide wave of people saying "See, I warned you".

(Journey sucks!)

Well...

At least we can rest secure in the knowledge that even if he was dismissed he was not criticized during the process, because Tony has told that would be tantamount to treason.
