What is wrong with these people?

A Republican speaks her heart and the truth (which coincide, a strange thing for ANY politician!) and her party's response is to try to claim that it was a joke? When it very obviously wasn't? Even the level of Spin-Discourse in Washington is in a sad, sad state when it comes to this.

I disagree with nearly everything else this woman has ever said, but my respect for her has risen just knowing that she was willing to actually say what she felt about something, rather than what the party line was, or apparently, what she thought needed saying to get votes. We need more politicians on both sides of the aisle (though I would of course prefer that they be liberal and agree with me).

I frequently wonder what our country would be like if politicians actually said what they believed and didn't have a two party system binding them into spewing party lines. If they, you know, actually represented the people that voted for them, and those people were actually able to base those votes on statements from the candidates that actually reflected their honest positions. These little daydreams are usually pretty nice, though I guess stating his actual position didn't work out to well for Joe (but the voters certainly did get an opportunity to let him know that his position didn't represent them, which is what really matters...).

Anyway, thanks Jo Ann Davis for making statements that indicate you actually represent your constituents (polls show they agree with what you said). Now let's see some action in congress to back up the words.

Original article: Pepsico CEO hits the spot

Ah...

But does she want to sell sugar water for the rest of her life, or does she want to change the world?

Hmmm...actually, considering how that worked out, stick to the sugar water.

DMV Fascists

Wow, they have become way more sophisicated. Disallowing initialisms is pretty hardcore (while the mall near me has a Fcuk store).

I still remember the disappointment that I felt back in 1983 when the California DMV would not allow me to get the personalized plate "Anarchy", despite my being registered as an Anarchist, meaning that I could not vote in ANY primary, despite the fact that logically, I should have been allowed to vote in BOTH (for conflicting candidates).

What happened to free speech again? Oh, right - speak our minds and the terrorists win...

A Short History Lesson

Someone really needs to sit Senator Hatch down and explain to him that the most successful terrorist attack in the history of the United States took place under the Republicans watch. He may have forgotten about it.

Unprotected Sex?

I want to live in the wonderful world of bullet-proof unbreakable condoms that these pharmacists inhabit.

Ahem...

Since I am apparently unable to comment on the poll, I apologize to all those seeking comments on this article.

RE: the poll and the emmys

Boston Legal is a DRAMA? I would totally have voted for each and every nomination it gots had it been listed under comedies.

Question

So, is Jack Reed saying that he is in favor of a draft to keep the military from being stretched too thin? I don't understand how else you are supposed to "increase the size of the military" when they already have a problem getting new recruits to keep it at it's current size.

Maybe he is admitting that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is removing some of the most qualified and talented candidates from the pool.

Maybe he is advocating lowering the admissions standards to that the autistic don't keep slipping away from us.

Maybe, everyone who enlists will be promised a pony.

Original article: How to marry a Forbes man

Whew!

I was irate because I had only read the "Don't Marry a Career Woman" article, and I was furious that Forbes was providing such one-sided advice.

I feel MUCH better now that I know that women, as well as men, are being provided with an article that will allow them to live out their lives in happy, sexually appropriate Forbes/GOP approved roles.

After all, it wouldn't be fair to tell the boys what kind of girls to go for, without telling the girls what kind of girl to be.

Apparently...

The article has been taken down. I'll look around and see if I can find a mirror, and post that. Interesting though - less than 24 hours from puiblication to disappearance.

Original article: Unhappily ever after

I wonder...

If Michael Noer has recently (say in the last year or so) been going through a painful divorce initiated by a wife with a career who decided that she wasn't going to put up with his crap anymore? The article (and the one before it) reek of sour grapes. Looked at that way, I almost could feel sorry for to see him acting out like this. Almost, but not.

Applause?

"the threat from Islamic fascism -- the phrase drew an enthusiastic round of applause --"

So, the Republicans are now applauding the threats to our nation? Makes sense - they know which side their bread is buttered on.

The thing is...

They could offer to pay me 20 million dollars and I still don't think I could watch Fox news for more than an hour.

It's not even about politics - it's just not good TV.
