@Had_Enough
[Read the article: An "enduring" commitment to Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Actually Had_enough, I think they we will mostly be protecting them from allying with Iran, which they have wanted to do since they were liberated, and will probably continue to want to do.
In other words, we will continue occupying them and preventing the elected (however shabbily) government from pursuing it's own foreign policy agenda.
Freedom marches on...not that I am saying them getting together with Iran is a good idea, but like most things in this war, it was a very predictable outcome from the start.

Don't forget - it's also regressive!
[Read the article: The Bank of America's ATM heist]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Someone taking out $200 is paying 1.5% compared to the 15% charge that someone on their last $20 is paying to get access to it. Assuming that their bank is not charging them a fee on top of that to access their account from another banks ATM, whjich can drive up the cost to a total of 25%.
That's not making a profit, that is, as usual, ripping of those who can least afford it.

Ummm...
[Read the article: What happens to private contractors who kill Iraqis? Maybe nothing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So, let me get this straight. We went in and overthrew Saddam so that the Iraqis could establish a democratic sovereign state that does not have the authority to overturn an order that was issued by the administrative authority that preceded their much heralded independence?
This is totally worth thousands of American lives.
Totally.

Does this...
[Read the article: Number of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am assuming that in their spoken debate the Republicans voting for this were very clear that they were retroactively condemning the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth for their much worse attacks on decorated veteran (and, admittedly, douchebag) John Kerry?
No?

@Anan 01:34 PM
[Read the article: Binge-drinking problem? Blame Amy Winehouse! ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow! An Anonymous comment in Broadsheet that I can wholeheartedly agree with!
I think this is a first.
-
What Confuses Me...
[Read the article: James Dobson's Rudy problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is why the well-known adulterer Newt "I know you have cancer and all, but here are some divorce papers" Gingrich is acceptable to these bible-thumping bozos. I think that as much as anything this shows that they are rotten to the core.
-
Gossip Girl
[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I like Gossip Girl, but I really could do without the framing device that gives the show it's name. I would much rather watch the show without the Kristin Bell voice over explaining to me what is happening, since I can sort of tell from what the actors are doing.
-
Amazing
[Read the article: Matthews: V.P.'s office tried to silence me on Cheney's Iraq role]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I never thought I would agree with Cheney on anything, but I could totally get behind this whole "Silence Chris Matthews" thing. I frequently really, really want him to just shut the hell up.
-
Colbert Nation
[Read the article: They don't call them "unscientific" surveys for nothing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"If they think Ron Paul supporters are "bad," they should see what the Colbert Nation can do."
True - when Ron Paul has a bridge in Hungary named after him, then I will start worrying (partly because he has to be dead...)
We should probably keep an eye on the various online presidential polls and see if any of them allow an "Other - Please Specify" write in spot, so they can be flooded for Stephen, forcing him into the race, because obviously he is not going to run otherwise. *Or is he?*
-
Californication
[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What I have wondered since the first episode is this: do they have to pay a licensing fee the the people that own the "Emily the Strange" character for the daughter? I mean really, the swipe is ridiculous.

Thank You Florida
[Read the article: "Thank you, Florida"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"If Al Gore had become President, then there is a possibility that his administration would not have completely dropped the ball on Al Qaeda, and I where would I be unless thousands had died in New York under my watch?!? Thanks Florida! Shoot ya later. 911."

Who says...
[Read the article: Countrywide's desperate rescue plan]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That it can't be both?
-
Really?!
[Read the article: Quick, somebody bomb Iran!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"but you know he really looked like 'you know who.'"
Voldemort?

Actually...
[Read the article: $2.4 trillion for Iraq and Afghanistan?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"This comes out to the United States spending nearly $50,000 per man, women and child in those countries. That means an average family of 5 has had $250,000 spent on them. "
Considering how little we pay in compensation for murdered Iraqis ($20K in the Blackwater outright, no question about it, cold blooded murder case) it would be MUCH, MUCH cheaper just to kill every man woman and child in both countries - it's a savings of like 60%!!! I assume that there would be some expense involved in tracking down next of kin that lived outside of Iraq and Afganistan (because rememeber, we will have killed them all), but some of that compenstation money could be coming back into the US economy, sso that is probably a wash.
I eagerly await for the administration to propose this, and for the Democrats to fall all over themselves racing to endorse it so they "look tough on terror".
-
You forget...
[Read the article: Kucinich, Ahmadinejad and the tongue stud]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I'd think that the sex-obsessed god botherers who vote for the Republicans would love this guy"
Oral sex is still sodomy, whether you do it with a man or a woman. The only bible thumping approved sexual activies are vaginal sex for procreation (no birth control!) and killing brown people. Other than that you are out of luck.
-
Maybe...
[Read the article: Conservative authors: "Help, we're being oppressed!"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When they stop mis-cataloging their books as non-fiction I will start to feel sorry for them.
-
I'm pretty sure...
[Read the article: Smoke this!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That if huffing sewage got you high, we would not just be finding out about it in the 21st century.
I do find it very interesting that all of this came up within days of Warren Ellis posting a micro-fiction story involving Jenkem on his website - http://warren-ellis.livejournal.com/?skip=3

Not that he ever will...
[Read the article: Sure, it rhymes with "witch," but it's actually spelled R-E-S-P-E-C-T]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But if he did, how would we beat this motherfucker?
-
It's too early to be commenting
[Read the article: Sure, it rhymes with "witch," but it's actually spelled R-E-S-P-E-C-T]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Comment should have read
Not that he ever will
But if he did get the nomination, how would we beat this motherfucker?
Need coffee.

@marktgarten
[Read the article: McCain raising funds off of "B-word" incident]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If only the language of our political debate was up to the level of Deadwood dialog...
I suppose that after thinking about this for a while I am not really that bothered about it, since whenever I think about *any* of the republican candiates the little voice in my head never uses any words nearly as nice as bitch for any of them. Except for Tancredo - the little voice always calls him a bitch.
