Brain biochemistry

The real problem is that nobody understands the biochemistry of human thought. The brain is ninety percent phospholipids. How those fats churn up there and ultimately perform our higher intellectual functions, is the real scientific challenge of the new millenium. Since it is not understood how it works, all sorts of silly postulations are offered especially when this critical organ begins to malfunction. Depression ,psychosis and dementia are bewildering conditions to even educated observers. Historiclly humans have turned to the mystical when confronted with such severe anxiety. It is not suprising to see shamen like Dr. Amen addressing these problems. It is diheartening to find that he has a forum on PBS.

Procreative Posturing

Its a really good thing that men are aroused by a pretty girl flaunting her breasts.This particular portal to the male hypothalmus ensures the survival of the species.

Don't Complain

When an intelligent human being is willing to leave his own home, migrate with difficulty to your doorstep and perform your dirty work for miniscule surplus cash, you are quite fortunate. Otherwise you ought to cancel the gym membership, sharpen grandpa's old tools and get dirty.

$2.00 diesel in 2010

Actually the price of diesel will drop by 2010. Thank the new Mcgyan process which converts algae grown on sewage into no sulfur biodiesel without glycerol byproduct in less than 6 minutes. Zero carbon footprint to boot. Too good to be true? A pilot plant is being built in Isanti, Minnesota.

Dude you are scared

Dude you are one very frightened man. You are so anxious that you are projecting attributes to her that exist only in your fantasies. You are attempting to transform her into a character that you find less threatening and familiar. Try to get hold of yourself and stop sharing so many secrets.

Do it with a click and hop in your step

Not only is it OK but you can say it now with a hop and click in your step " Dang right I am pro choice. Abortion and a dead fetus never bothered me. Bring on Freedom of Choice" The march continues.

Protecting a constituent group

In the end the bailout will be nothing more than a Democratic administration patronizing part of its core constituency. Nobody has persuasively explained why a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and subsequent reorganization would not be the best long term solution for the auto industry. The problem of course would be that the absurd labor contracts and work rules would become historical curiosities as would the UAW itself. It's not for nothing the UAW gave all that money to the Democrats.The new Democatic administration will spend as many tax dollars as necessary in the name of "saving jobs". Why if they let the UAW go what would the NEA and other government worker unions begin to think?

Hasan Closeted?

Consider this. Hasan could not find a wife sufficently fundamentalist? This man was probably dealing with homoerotic feelings his entire life. He joined ROTC and the military to reaffirm his "macho" nature.Chooses psychiatry as a specialty in a further attempt to deal with his feelings. Firmly embraces a religion that has no tolerance for homosexuality. Wears clothing that by western standard almost appears feminine. Finally snaps. This guy needed a friend.

@rr heard

Chill rr You really do protest too much. We'll see soon enough. The police will be going through his computer and with any luck there will be a trial.

@l.boogie

You should really try to analyze these events without a narrow prism. What rational person would be happy about this carnage? However uncomfortable investigators will seek out to understand Major Hasan's psychological state. If he was struggling with repressed homoerotic feelings, it may not be politicaaly correct to ask, but it is important to understand. Don't worry there always have been and always will be gay soldiers. This case may ultimately demonstrate if nothing else how difficult it is for some individuals to function in such a culture.

@omooex,l. boogie et al

Bottom line. Wish both of you well.You are truly happy truth seekers. But then again only a fool would be happy.

@rr heardG

Gee, now I know you are not only smart but really tough. You sort of remind me of a guy who used to brag about his great uncle the NKVD agent. Sadly he did not turn out to be too bright or tough.

@ Kitt

Really had no great insights (sterling or otherwise) on Sgt. Russell's bizarre actions. If you really feel my analysis of Major Hasan's potential motives are off base, then simply ignore it. If it has no real merit it will soon fade away. There was no intent to offend anybody and I really do wish you well.

Iran's Bomb

When was the last time a nuclear armed country was invaded,defeated,lost territory or lay prostate before their enemies? Answer:never. Iran was attacked by Iraq, suffered 800,000 casualties, has an American fleet permanently stationed in the Persian Gulf, and always has to wonder about Russia's intentions and the behavior of its Sunni majority neighbors. From their perspective it makes perfect sense to have nuclear weapons. BTW no culture or attitude will change at the point of a bayonet, military or political coercion. If Iran or for that matter any cultural entity changes, it will be because ideas and innovations are communicated by books, travel, satellites, the internet and economic development. Then and only then will an Iranian couple walking and holding hands, confronted by some guy from the 10th century, will laugh and continue walking.

Don't let the bastards win

Cary, By all means go foward with the best surgeon and therapy available. There really is no voodoo about cancer. Stay positive and don't let this or any other bastard beat you. Also make sure your surgeon freezes and saves some of your ressected tumor. It may be useful in making a tumor vaccine for you some day.
