God Bless
[Read the article: Compassionate conservatism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]God, Allah, Buddha bless the conservatives for they actually think they know what they say. As the parent of a child wounded in the Simon's Rock shooting in 1994 (in which two died), does anyone really believe that more guns would result in less violence. I know, guns don't kill people, people kill people. But if there were no freely available guns, how many might not have died, how many might not have been wounded, how many families (including the shooters') might not have been torn apart yesterday or on December 14, 1994 (or Columbine or the ever growing list)? We have now offered up 33 more in sacrifice to what some claim is a constitutional right. Count me as one who values life higher than that.

Move On Indeed
[Read the article: Gonzales to Congress: Move on]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In an ironic sense, Gonzales is absolutely correct. It is time for moving on in this matter. But where shall the hopefully soon to be former Attorney General go? There must be a no-bid contractor out there needing a General Counsel.

No Surprises Here
[Read the article: Who made the list?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nothing surprising in the least in Alberto's latest testimony. The legal Canons of Ethics aside, isn't it about time to face the hard decision: either he was complicit in what appears, from any angle, to be an illegal act or he is so inept that he is not qualified as serve as Attorney General. I realize he has trouble making decisions, but where the correct outcome is as clear as it appears in this case, how hard can it be choosing the reason for your resignation. After all, he has mastered the orchestrated resignation of others, as we are now learning. And what of the dilemma he leaves us, an organization so politicized, contrary to law or one so inept that perhaps the countless lapses in oversight under the Patriot Act are merely further examples of ineptitude.

Mission Accomplished
[Read the article: Cheney: "We didn't get elected to be popular"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and we promise an end to the active hostilities if you get us out of this mess of a war and resign in the process. Simple, right?

And Mickey Mouse Has Deadly Ray Gun
[Read the article: GOP senator blames Democrats for troop deaths]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That people like Jim DeMint exist is no surprise. That they can speak freely on topics about which they appear to know little is one of the blessings of our democracy. That they get elected to office speaks freely to our foolishness. The he accused Democrats is no surprise, he is a demonizer from way back. What was more interesting in his speach was that he has an intellegence apparatus that is more effective and efficient than that at the calling of W and crew. From "The State":
"During a luncheon speech to 100 constituents in Spartanburg, DeMint also took issue with the now widespread belief that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction, saying the executed Iraqi dictator had “stockpiles of chemical weapons” that still exist."
So, Senator Jim, want to disclose where Osama's hiding as well?

But the Right Choice
[Read the article: Obama Veepstakes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of course the best choice, from my perhaps jaundiced view, is Joe Biden. A senior statesman of the party, international experience and reputation, rarely strident. Kind of like Al Gore (Pre-Nobel) with personality to spare.
