A lost gem, found again.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ah yes...I had slowly forgotten about him over the past 20 years. Thank you Andrew and Erik Nelson for bringing us back to him and possibly even piqing the interest of some newcomers to his works.
Andrew, my draw dropped when you included Philip K Dick and Michael Moorcock as those among his peers. Science fiction and fantasy were quite the rage among kids my age in the late 70's and early 80's. Delving into sci-fi and fantasy full tilt in high school, I was fortunate enough to quickly gravitate towards these three genre-defying genre writers; both Ellison and Dick in Science Fiction as a rebellion against the "Space Opera" crap of the day; and Moorcock against the infantalizing D&D-style world of fantasy fiction.
I took my Ellison books with me to college, including Stalking the Nightmare and a signed copy of Shatterday. I remember when a fellow student asked me about Harlan Ellison, my friend who was with me who was also familiar with Ellison said, "If all science fiction is like pot, then Harlan Ellison is like cocaine." I think the description was apt. Sadly, I lent out my Ellison books and they made the rounds among my circle of friends and dorm-mates; alas they were never returned to me and his literary influence faded away for me.
Now he is back on my radar and I am pleased to see he is not a horrid old curmudgeon; nor is he living in the past at all. He is so dead on when he says, "more and more people today know less and less about more and more." And vice-versa, I might add. As well as his ideas of the meaning of pop art vs. high art today. Still ever stimulating. You have rekindled my interest in him; I am going to find a way to see this film; and more importantly track down an old copy of Shatterday and take that deep plunge once again.

I guess they are guessing the Hildebeast will wear herself out spewing venom and bile and agitating her dour minions. Unless she wins by a 837% margin it is over. "Fuzzy Math" won't work in this election cycle.
The curtain draws. And you know what? I'm not worried about a Hell's Grannies riot in Denver; they are too bitter, old and lazy to get down from their Ivory Towers.

Bush was notorious for not living in the Reality-Based community and I'm afraid many Hillary supporters have gone off and joined him there. It will be officially over in a few weeks, no later than after the NC primary. Then, you can have your Irish Wake and come back to the ground and together we can take on the real enemy within.
I worry about you guys getting so emotionally invested in a nonrational outcome, to the poit where it seems many here are at risk of choking on their own bile. Take a deep breath, relax. Go through the 5 Kubler Ross steps. Staying in the anger stage forever is not healthy at all.
