[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Which makes the hysteria over data-mining and keyword searching a real mystery. Apparently you and quite a few more are hot to trot to have your most personal and intimate information in a government database, along with that of all your family. Can you envision HIV lists, gay lists, obesity lists? Apparently not. And you're worried about who knows you call your office? What the hell are you people thinking about?-
There is that socialist boogeyman. Ohhhhhh. That is scary.
...except to this Canadian citizen who has been using 'socialized' medicine for a lifetime and has experienced no such issues. Don't believe we have any of the 'lists' that you describe.
The kind of private and sensitive data that you describe would likely be generously shared, and probably are, by such benevolent organizations as private insurers, perhaps.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]-The highest priority must be to prevent the Republicans from winning the presidency in the upcoming election.-
Indeed, and your comment brings to mind one by a poster on another thread who suggested the upcoming presidential election might be a 'cakewalk'.
Danger: not so.
With all of the already well-established voter-caging practices and other known and unknown subterfuge now underway and expected to get underway by the GOP, it is surely folly to take the position that 'all is well, just wait till November'.
In fact, a victory at the polls in 2008 will require a landslide of historic proportions to compensate for all the electoral fraud expected. Success in the 2008 election hinges on turnout, a really big turnout.
Fortunately, the 70% of Americans who have had more than enough of a criminal enterprise taking over their country seem to be getting that and appear eager to show it, if the turnout so far in the primaries is any indication.
Remember, if its close, the Supremes could well rule in their favor again....
So, lets not go getting all complacent.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]-But we understand that Bartlett was a character, played by an actor. And despite the fact that Martin Sheen has been a real-life political activist for years, we extrapolate precisely nothing about his suitability for high office from his fine performances on West Wing.-
Very well stated. The current process underway being a case in point: Huck and Chuck, McCain and Rocky XXXXIV.
The GOP party have been aware of their constituents' delusions since time immemorial and have been playing on them for years.
The biggest pinstriped vacuum-tube of all, Reagan, has achieved posthumous God-status and recent sound-bytes of Romney displayed him citing Reagan (literally) three and four times in a single sentence.
The ability to suspend disbelief is especially prevalent in the bible-belt, home of their 'base'. Hardly surprising, that...

Excellent link, thanks.
It would be an understatement to suggest that the modern media is beyond hopelessly pathetic, but it bears repeating as often as possible.
-The degree to which the real terrorists in the Middle East and the wannabe warriors in the midwest are dependent on each other for their continued sustinence is really quite disturbing.-
Very true, and that applies to Bush and bin Laden. They help each other's cause as though they were allies....are they allies?
Whenever Bush or the GOP face an election or need to get some draconian law passed, Osama, or someone who is quite similar in appearance, appears on TV or the internet at the critical moment.
Conversely, Bush's misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq continue to have the obvious effect of breeding hatred exponentially.
BTW: For the 'Surge is working' crowd, US service fatalities in Iraq, the only metric officially permitted, are documented at the highest since Sept. 2007 for the month of January 2008.
Of the 57 documented months since the initial invasion, January 2008 ranks nowhere near the lowest body count. How is then that 'the surge is working, the surge is working'?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Another example of confusion about a clearly defined protocol within the government, expressed here by one of the faux warrior theorists, is that the president, specifically George W. Bush, is our "commander in chief."-
Is there another 'president' (small 'p' for an even smaller man) in history that has publicly used the term 'Commander-in-Chief' more frequently than the Decider?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]-(A note on style: I practice news writing style. If I were to put the word president before George Bush's name, I would capitalize it, out of respect for the office. It is his title. Having said that, another bit of protocol holds that members of the uniformed services salute people of higher rank, only on the basis that they are acknowledging someone above them in the chain of command....-
Point taken and no disrespect for the office intended. Disrespect for the 'man' (small 'm') intended.
