@Dirigo
[Read the article: Amnesty Day for Bush and lawbreaking telecoms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"So I understand, WT, that some of W's handlers, ever mindful of his "legacy," are now peddling the idea that he really is like Lincoln, compared to Churchill - or Kaiser Wilhelm.
Do you think he measures up?"
Yes. He deserves a memorable nickname in the spirit of Honest Abe, Tricky Dick, Slick Willy.
What was Reagan's? Cardboard Movie Poster Cutout?
My pick: Dishonest Dubya. Any other submissions? Oh, and good luck with 'legacy' the thing....

Proctology Worthy
[Read the article: Amnesty Day for Bush and lawbreaking telecoms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Contrary to what you believe, Al Qaeda wants us out of Iraq and will celebrate our departure as a victory for them and for Islam. Whether that should have any effect on our course of action is another matter entirely and one I have not commented on, but to not understand that this is the case is the mark of a complete ignoramus.
-- Proximity Warning
So, you have really bought into the Islamic Boogey-Man meme, haven't you? Bushco finds suckers like you quite useful, obviously.

They have paid the taxes...
[Read the article: Amnesty Day for Bush and lawbreaking telecoms]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Although it is being called a tax rebate in actuality it is more than that:
The Senate, voting 81 to 16, slightly expanded the House plan to include payments for some 20 million Social Security recipients and 250,000 disabled veterans who would not have qualified because they do not earn income. - NY Times
Additionally, some tax payers will be eligible to receive more money than they have actually paid in taxes.
Don't forget sales tax. They have paid the taxes and, one way or another.

Can anyone direct me to the nearest talking point vending machine?
[Read the article: Jihadis throw a wild bash over the Protect America Act]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As awklib so aptly points out:
McConnell: We are on the brink of bringing this 20th-century tool in line with 21st-century technology and threats.
Shooter: And here we have the demand that 20th Century restrictions, be applied to 21st Century technology.
Are you not just a tiny bit embarrassed Shooter?
Here you are not only spouting canned Bushco fear-monger talking points virtually verbatim, but you have just offered up the flavor of the week.
You must have been up early, refreshing your browser, waiting for Glenn's newest post. Your first response was number 4 of the day.
I do admire dedication....

Couple of thoughts
[Read the article: Jihadis throw a wild bash over the Protect America Act]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]@sysprog
Rush: This is the kind of stuff President Bush hates doing, by the way, and I'm sure he doesn't want to go in areas like this, but he's canceled his Africa trip to push this thing and get it done because it's crucial.
Going to Africa is the kind of stuff 'President' Bush hates doing. Its really far and nearly everyone is black there.
@JKP1000
I’ve thought for the past several years, as ‘fear’ and ‘being frightened’ have been the hallmark of every Republican speech, that the most obvious rebuttal the Democrats could make would be to point out that the Republican Party was the party of “fear”. Not fear-mongering, which assumes somehow that they’re in control and just using fear, but to paint them as the party of FEAR. Of being SCARED.
The obvious irony is that the fear-mongers are the ones to be feared.
It should be turned on them, used to deride them, to laugh at them, to mock them for being overwhelmed by America’s enemies.
I do what I can...
@Retired Military Patriot
Apparently his (McCain's) ambition to be president, not serve the nation and its people, is more powerful than having the courage of his convictions to stand up when in his heart he knows he should be more loyal to his nation than his party of fear.
What's that little GOP sing-song? Right...flipflopflipflop

[Read the article: Jihadis throw a wild bash over the Protect America Act]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-If the Washington Post had this yesterday, why did I get no other hits for US media outlets when searching Yahoo News for "Seton Hall video tapes"? This seems like pretty important stuff to me, but it is getting zero play.-
Thanks for the timely link.
If this story has substance, and I can see no reason why not, then it will grow in time but don't I expect it to get the kind of play it deserves. You might see some coverage at nyt.com by Sunday and hopefully Olbermann will pick it up.
Certainly a reasonable expectation that all mil and intel interrogations are taped. Can you imagine an interrogation that is not recorded. Without that evidence, what, they're going with the interrogator's say-so that the 'guy has the inside track on the next imminent attack and we should oughta launch a pre-emptive strike'?
Everything is on tape. Its no more than a matter of time before more tapes will emerge. If the military can inadvertently deploy a B-52 full of nukes, its not a stretch to imagine some loose tapes in the very near future.

Saw that and had a chuckle myself.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Because my colander is made of plastic, does anyone have good instructions for a tin foil hat?
Maybe Martha Stewart has a good pattern on her website....
I just want to be ready for midnight.
Perhaps use your colander as a form and mold some fresh tinfoil over it?

[Read the article: The Leader isn't protecting us and keeping us safe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Make no mistake, the primary threat is entirely from within and has nothing to do with extremists overseas.-
That is most certainly a fact and has been so for a number of years.
For example:
Who has been more destructive to the way of life of Americans since 9/11?
a) Bin Laden
b) Bush
B-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-T. Sorry contestant. The answer is (b) or Bush.
