@Glenn
[Read the article: John King with Mike McConnell: Rare journalistic honesty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-It's so revealing that King's excuse for knowing nothing about the FISA debate is that he's "spent most of his time, in the past several months, out covering a presidential campaign." Just as King suggests (unintentionally), "covering a presidential campaign" is mutually exclusive with knowing about any actual substantive issues, precisely because the media's coverage of our campaigns (and, thus, to a large extent, the campaign itself) is bereft of any actual substance-
Barack Hussein Obama is informed about the FISA 'debate'....and he's been pretty busy 'spending most of his time' involved in a presidential campaign 'in the past several months'.
I'm late to the party. Forgive me if someone beat me to that crack.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Thanks
to Bystander, Jeanette and Gordon -- I knew that, at this blog, even a comment section request would produce what I was looking for, and probably should have asked earlier.-
I am sure the staff was more than delighted to be of service ;>

@ Armagednoutahere
[Read the article: John King with Mike McConnell: Rare journalistic honesty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]RE: Worse even
-It's not like were weren't warned by the first few actually competent professionals (that were, of course, summarily driven from their posts by this craven band of freaks) that something shocking was happening. Paul O'Neill and Richard Clarke, among many others, tried to warn the country that these guys cared about absolutely nothing outside of political loyalty, in every single decision they make.-
They call it 'Shock and Awe. Wait a minute, that strictly applies to Bahgdad, right?

@ C.Collins
[Read the article: John King with Mike McConnell: Rare journalistic honesty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Glenn's original post is vague on this, particularly in the quote that brings up McConnell's connection with the company, and the above claim by Northwestwoods is wrong, I believe.-
What claim did I make that you take exception to? My post contained only one claim out of three lines that I am aware of and that is, quote, 'The segment would not be sponsored by Lockheed Martin like CNN's Sunday talk consistently is'.
Which is a fact.
Tune into Howard Kurtz or Wolf Blitzer on any Sunday and the most central and lavish commercial in the prime spot of both of those those shows is Lockheed Martin (slogan: we know who we're working for).
Any other 'claims' in my post were made by GG and pasted there by me.

@ RMP
[Read the article: John King with Mike McConnell: Rare journalistic honesty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Could the reason be that her intelligence, knowledge and communication skill show a comparison to the CNN regulars that reflects where they rank in those skills. Also, might lightweights like McConnell refuse to appear if they are to be challenged by someone with skills that will make them look like the fools and shills that they are?'-
You are likely correct. Dr. Maddow is in possession of some pretty astounding intellect, a rapier wit, and she seems to have the capacity to absorb volumes of information daily between her appearances as its clear she is usually very well informed about just about anything you can throw in her path.
She is way out of their league.

@ bystander
[Read the article: John King with Mike McConnell: Rare journalistic honesty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Oh, well. I console myself that Mr. King may be reading the thread in silent frustration and grinding his teeth.-
I suspect that might be the case. Surely after the bruising he endured here in response to Glenn's posting of King's juvenile retort, King would have enough sense to just lay low and cut his losses.

Slight O/T but plenty relevant
[Read the article: Some hateful, radical ministers -- white evangelicals -- are acceptable]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn, you must be a thorn in the miltary's boot.
I'd guess your blog is on the 'censored' list.

Canada-U.S. pact allows cross-border military activity
[Read the article: George Bush told the truth yesterday]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I first heard of this story at 4.30 today on Rachel Maddow.
David Pugliese, Canwest News Service

'Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.'
Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.
According to the Air America report, it has been signed and ratified. Secretly.
Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper is a loyal partner in the Global War on Terror(tm).

@ Bill Owen and LWM
[Read the article: The "liberal" position on the Surveillance State]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]-Sub Prime mortgage scandal? I am not sure how that is relevant? The evidence for economic control cannot be found in any particular case such as the sub prime loans "debacle", for it was a debacle not for the oligarchy, the rich are still rich and the poor are still poor - or in prison. A police state does not care for the welfare of the masses, therefore there was no need to control what happens in any particular economic case as long as overall the oligarchy benefits.-
Lets consider the harsh revisions to US bankruptcy laws and Bush's recent threat to side with the financial industry and to veto the bill recently proposed by Hill Democrats to ease the burden on sub-prime mortgage holders.
Additionally, the abysmal US minimum wage rate for so many decades is certainly part of the equation. I say to the contrary, America's fascist corporate-controlled police state is very much about strict economic control and seek to do away with the middle class, something that Mussolini believed was a fundamental tenet of fascist control of the citizenry.
From Dan Froomkin:
'In a big win for the mortgage industry, Senate Republicans yesterday lined up behind Bush and blocked consideration of a bill that would have sent billions of dollars to local communities to buy up subprime mortgages and would have allowed bankruptcy judges to slash interest rates for low-income homeowners.'

Not sure how that is not police-state financial control, as LWM stated. Its less than obvious perhaps because it was long in planning and carefully constructed over time. The right-wing has been reinforcing their grip on power by waging economic warfare abroad and at home since time immemorial.
