more male objectification
[Read the article: Equal-opportunity objectifiers?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm late on commenting on this, but these online ads for Reversa skin creams are worth checking out for a more stylish version of those cleaning product ads: http://www.seemoresideeffects.ca/. A friend of mine pointed them out in the context of a discussion about pornography for women (no actual porn involved, just a lot of suggestiveness!).

a hypothetical scenario
[Read the article: Does sex through fraud constitute rape?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What about this? I heard a story on NPR a while ago about a professor doing a study about attitudes toward rape. She gave a bunch of undergraduates several scenarios and asked them whether or not they were rape. One of them was this. A woman lives alone and often leaves the door to her apartment unlocked so that her boyfriend, who works late, can come over after work. Another man in the apartment building, who she doesn't know, notices that she leaves the door unlocked, and one night he goes into her room while she's asleep and starts to have sex with her. There is actually debate among the students about whether or not this is rape, which amazes me. How can it not be at least attempted rape? And how is the real situation different?

an issue that's been around for a while
[Read the article: When covering up blocks the sun]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This isn't the first time this issue has been raised; see this BBC news story from February 2001: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/1154211.stm
This earlier story isn't based on a scientific study, and it generated complaints of anti-Muslim bias.

that's right next door!
[Read the article: Women-only workouts]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Huh. I go to this gym, and here it is in Broadsheet. I'm divided on the principle of the women only hours, but for what it's worth, the place is virtually empty at the times in question, and has been for a long time. I've been there during some of the women only hours, just by coincidence, and saw no obvious signs that Muslim women were seeking it out.

pure annoyance
[Read the article: Noisy and oh-so-nice]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I hate loud keyboards. Hate them. One of my favorite things about my Macs (desktop and laptop) is how quiet the keyboard is. And sharing an office with someone with a loud keyboard is no good either.
