  • A few small issues

[Read the article: How to solve America's water problems]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The problem is less the number of people; it is more the people who think that they can use the same amount of water as in the Midwest in the West. Having multiple golf courses in a city and people enjoying verdant lawns in New Mexico is stupid. What we need to do is stop wasting water.

  • Ron Paul isn't for the Fair Tax

[Read the article: Mike Huckabee wants to abolish the IRS]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

He is for abolishing the IRS, period. And, at the same time, his supporters state that he is all about following the Constitution. Last time I checked, the income tax was part of the Constitution. So, instead of being dumb like Huckabee, Paul and his supporters are just the normal bald faced liars.

  • Yes it is silliness, but not that way

[Read the article: It's my abortion, too!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am a man. And, I ALWAYS have the option of using a condom, getting a vasectomy, or saying "no" to sex. This is my protection from becoming a father against my will. If you have unprotected sex, then you are giving your consent to possibly becoming a father. Anything else is stupid, irresponsible, or ignorant.

At the same time, there is a culture of men who deny being fathers. Men who punish their children due to anger at the mothers. And, men who think having lots of children is a sign of virility.

BTW, there is a mistake in the post...

"I think few people would argue that the decision to have an abortion is a serious one, and that it carries the possibility of regret."

I think few people would argue that the decision to have an abortion is NOT a serious one.

  • Ron Paul has as much chance as Fred or Rudy

[Read the article: Memo to Fox: One of the horses is missing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Basically zero chance.

  • Wow.

[Read the article: Huckabee digs a little deeper]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You don't need the Constitution to know that all human races are people.

  • Doomsday has been right around the corner for centuries.

[Read the article: I'm a brilliant scientist and I fear for the world's fate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We cannot predict the weather with any certainty. We cannot predict the stock market. Yet, people are seriously taking the opinions of people who claim to be scientists at MIT.

The major truism I have learned is that when scientists say something is impossible, they are likely wrong. When they say something is highly unlikely, they are often right. Can the problems the world faces be solved? Yes, they can. Will they? I have no idea.

Anyone who claims to predict the future with any certainty is deluding themselves. And, people who believe the line of "I'm really smart. So, believe me." are gullible.

  • Why don't you understand it, King?

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"If you can train longer and harder and heal from injuries faster and get more oxygen in your lungs, it stands to reason you should be able to get stronger and faster than you otherwise might have been able to get. I'm not aware of much dispute here."

Then, you state that you don't know how it helps baseball players. Yet, you state that the information in the above quote is undisputed. The baseball season is 162 games in 6-7 months. If you can heal your injuries faster and recover from exercise faster, then why would anyone think that it wouldn't help baseball players? If you don't understand that concept, then you really aren't as smart (including the people you think are smart and don't understand it) as you think you are.

In addition, steroids won't help me hit a baseball, but it will allow me to hit a ball farther and harder - turning warning track fly balls into homers, turning weak grounders into base hits through the infield, and sending line drives into the alleys giving outfields no time to catch up. In addition, it will allow you to throw a baseball harder and farther in every position. It will help pitchers recover from long outings. It will allow pitchers to go out day faster day with minimal consequences. Everything flows from the idea that the drugs help you practice harder, reach level levels of output, and recover more quickly.

I fail to understand how ANYONE could think they are intelligent when they cannot see the basic consequences. It is like saying that someone cannot understand why there should be more black quarterbacks because black people are not as intelligent as other races despite the numerous contributions to the world that have come from black people. It is ignoring very basic facts due to some ignorant bias at best. And, it is pure stupidity at worst.

  • Personally, I use a pair of lights

[Read the article: The bike light that saved the world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Two Planet Bike 1W LED lights do just fine for me. The units each take 4AA batteries each (recharging is possible). In total, they cost about $60. This is compared to the single Ixon IQ light that is about $90 without batteries.

  • NM

[Read the article: Waiting for New Mexico]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

NM is 44.0% Hispanic or Latino and 42.8% White, non-Hispanic. Up until about 10 years ago, the majority went the other direction. But, this doesn't say anything about the percentages of New Mexicans that voted in the Democratic Caucus.

  • Tough to lose 60% to 46%.

[Read the article: How the Web pushes politics further left, further right]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    60+46=106 - impossible

And, I wouldn't call that a landslide either.

  • Be supportive

[Read the article: A friend is doing chemo. What should I say?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If your friend doesn't mention it, then you need to let it go until and if she does. Otherwise, enjoy her company and realize that we all are terminal.

  • Small problem

[Read the article: William Kristol's bad grade in economics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Almost every" does not equal every. One metric was cited which does not refute the original statement. Unless there are several (at minimum) instances to be cited, the person punk'd is Mr. Leonard who deserves a bad grade in basic reading comprehension and math.

Further if you read what Kristol wrote and what Mrs. Obama stated, they are two different generalizations. Mrs. Obama mentions "regular folks" with no real definition. Are men with only a high school degree the regular folks? I don't know. Then, Kristol mentions "American lives" which is even more general since it likely includes the proverbial regular folks and everyone else. So, if you merge the graphs shown in the link, have all American lives gotten better in the last 25 years? It seems that this could be the case.

So, why attack Kristol on a point where he cannot reasonably be shown that he is wrong? I would give Rodrik and Leonard F's if I were their teacher.
